Hi there,

First of all I'd like to apologise if this topic is in the wrong forum, I have been deliberating whther it belongs in here, a hardware forum or the XMBP forum. Secondly i'd like to apologise if ths question is a regular problem and is regularly answered. I have scouted the boards for a while and can find no solution.

I have been working with XBOX's for a couple of years and have chipped a number of them in my time, mostly just using a chip followed by Slayers Evox auto installer. I've never really had any problems that i havent been able to sort out myself by reading up, but this problem has me beaten.

The XBOX in question is a 1.3 fitted with an ALX2+ modchip, which has now been in service 2-3 years. I recently upgraded the XMBP sotware I had on it to XMBC.

I tried to watch some downloaded material on there this evening, and the aspect ration wasn't correct so i thought id fiddle with some options with no joy, then I remembered a setting on XMBP were you could set your screen aspect ratio then it would kick in on reboot. In retrospect i dont know why i thought it would work, but anyway i changed it to 4:3 and switched off.

When I turned back on I was greeted by the sounds of the splash screen but no image, also the XBOX seems to get no further than this as it makes a very strange noise in that The DVD drive keeps making the noise it does as you turn the machine on about every five seconds as if it is trying to boot from this drive. When I try and open the drive it opens half way and then snaps closed again.

So I turned off after trying this a number of times, and started the xbox with the eject button so i could put the auto installer disc in (this modchip will not boot from the eject button, you just a FRAG) As i turned the xbox back on with the normal hold power button down for 2 secs method, it did sound as if there were some hd activity and disc activity but after a few mins it went back to the reoccuring DVD noise.

In neither case can I ftp to my xbox, so theres no go there. I have not tried yet making an enigmah boot disc but i cant see this working anyway because i have not altered the PAL/NTSC settings.

To me the symtoms do not appear to be directly linked with what i changed in XMBP, but this is all i can think of as thats how it stopped working.
