Xbox Video Setting Screwed Up Ms Dash
« on: July 07, 2005, 11:10:00 PM »

Xbox Version 1.1
EVOX M8 (LBA48)
Exolution-X Dash 3935

Alright, that's out of the way:

My problem is that I changed the MS Dash video setting from standard to widescreen, and it reset back to the Evox dash. I tried to go back, and I got an error 21. Is there a way to change that setting back to standard?

This exact thing happened to me last week.  I just FTP in to my xbox ,removed all of the default.xbe, update.xbe, basically all of the original xbox stuff and FTP a back up of all that , rebooted and was able to go to the MS dash and change the video setting .

I think my MS Dash got corrupt , when I accidentally updated xbox live while playing Conker.  It was late and I thought I was saving the game but accidentally updated xbox live and wanted to connect to xbox live,  at that point , I jumped out of my chair and hit the power button off .LOL

No go.

Is there any idea as to where the settings information is stored?

it looks like while you were in your M$ dash it, or XBL, tried to update itself and you stopped it before it was done and it got corrupted.  go find a copy of a program called auto installer deluxe v2, d/l it, and burn the .iso to a DVD+R/RW (they seem to work best in xbox drives).  boot up to this disk with your chip on.  from the disk you can install a fresh M$ dash and then go and configure your A/V settings.

So it can update without any sign of a progress bar or notification?

I tried with AutoUpdate v1.0 (Still trying to download v2, it's going rather slowly), and it still didin't help any. I still get Error-21 when I try to run the MS Dashboard, or certain Xbox games.

If only there were some way of identifying the MS Dash settings and tinkering with them. I have a feeling it's somewhere in the TData/Udata folders..........

Of course, now there's the problem of figuring out what files got corrupted and why the installer isn't replacing it.

This would probably be best moved to the EB2K forum, since after much research and PMing with fellow members, this is an X-Chip issue.
----------------
That being said, new problem: After calling EB2K's tech support, I learned that I had to reflash the X-Chip with the original X-BIOS. I finally got that done, but after calling again to get the next step (Whatever is required to get through to the EEPROM and fix it to allow locking of the HDD), I can no longer reach EasyBuy's tech support (Whoever Carlos is, he's never available. Sorry, but it's true).

So I'm currently stuck with an Xbox that cannot power on without a green/red flashing light. If anyone can tell me what the next step is, I would be grateful.
