Can't Boot Evo Dash From Cdrw
« on: March 28, 2005, 05:16:00 AM »

Hi all, got a bit of a brain scratcher.  I have a modded xbox running Evox 3935 on the M8 bios on an Aladdin chip.  Currently everything is working fine with the standard 8gb drive and I am trying to put a new HD in it.

However, when I try to boot from a CDRW with the default.xbe on it,  I get a black screen.  I am following the tutorial at:

http://www.xbox-scen...dd-install2.php

This tutorial informs me that one of the following is most likely happening:

*you used media your xbox can't read.

Using Imation CDRW's on a Phillips drive.  Can navigate file structure fine in HD-booted Evo

* your evox dashboard isn't called default.xbe

It sure is.

* you made an error in the evox.ini

Possible, but I have checked pretty thoroughly.  Here is a link to my evox.ini:

http://www.users.on....leeves/evox.ini

* you didn't make a "xiso" before burning.

Have tried XISO Manager on XP and osXiso b3 on OSX.  Both appear to be creating xiso's fine.  I have included a 200mb padding file.

* you didn't burn the "xiso" correctly

Tried burning with Nero on XP and Toast on OSX.  Both produce disks which can be browsed fine on the xbox, but which get black screens when it tries to boot off them.

* your modchip doesn't have the HDD-swap feature

Yes it does.

* the disk has no /backup directory with 5files

Yes it does.

* your modchip is disabled

Yes it does.

Also, trying to launch the default.xbe file from disk when booted under Evolution produces the same black screen.

**Takes an exhausted breath**

So, does anyone know what might cause Evolution X to give a Black Screen of Death when booting from a CDRW?
