What is the definative answer about EVOX's FTP server? Is it just a piece of junk or something? No matter _what_ I try, the thing always times out, hangs up, takes an insanely long time - it just doesn't work.

Its not a network problem. I know what I am doing. I am completely capabale of FTP to any other machine on my network at a realistic speed. Theres not alot of traffic on my network, its not a faulty router or switch. I've even tried using a crossover cable right to the machine. I've tried different clients, etc ... Every version of EVOX has had this problem. I don't want to even discuss network or configuration issues - thats not it.

Here is a typical scenario:
CODE

New XMBC release needs to be installed. First thing I need to do is delete the old
one because I won't use it anymore. Only thing happening XBOX side at this time is EVOX just sitting there.

Startup explorer, browse to the XBOX with an ftp:// url. Navigate over to the XMBC
directory and delete it. Explorer thinks about how long it will take to do this for a while, starts to delete the files and about 1/2 way through it quits. The XBOX is still on, still working fine. I can play games, use the network, etc.

I can't connect to the FTP server anymore, it terminates all connections immediately unless I reboot.

So I reboot the thing. This time I try the same thing with CuteFTP (using one connection, not multiple connections). Same problem.

Eventually, I have to actually go into a directory like visualizations and delete its contents from there first, then back up and retry deleting again. Sooner or later the FTP seizes up and does not accept new connections until I reboot.

There are similar problems when I upload XBMC or anything with a large number of files or with a number of subdirectories.

If I try this with other FTP client from other machines with other OSes (MAC, Linux) the same thing happens. The xbox FTP server performance always degrades and stops functioning.

Is there a debug mode for the FTP server? XBMC's FTP is only a little bit better. Eventually it breaks down too. Once I do get something like XBMC over there I can stream media to it all day and night with no problems at all. What is the deal with the FTP server in these pieces of software?
