Us Xbox In London For Vacation.
« on: October 25, 2004, 05:50:00 PM »

i need help i have searched the forums and have found nothing particularly useful. im going away on vacation to LONDON and am taking my modded XBOX. I need to know... Which power adaptor do i need? is it pricey? also.. i think that video standards are different there. i haev the ntsc -> pal switcheroo program thing. can i use NTSC games when i main PAL  mode? Also can i use the normal RED WHITE YELLOW inputs? what kind of video in puts do they probably have and what convereters do i need (if any).

Help will be greatly appreciated. THX MUCHO.

When I lived in Europe, they had these converter boxes (silver, took the 220/50 and converted it to 110/60) that we used to run nearly everything.  If I remember correctly, they were expensive little bastards.

Other than that, I guess picking up a normal PAL powersupply would work.  The internal connections would be the same amongst the same version, and it would take the correct voltage/freq.  Unless there's a way to tweak the existing one (which I think would require replacement of capacitors, as well as some way to step down voltage).

I live in England, and I own quite a lot of American consoles and use them with no problem.

You only thing you will need is a stepdown converter.  This will convert the 240v UK power socket into a safe 110v for your system.  They are very cheap, no more than $20.  This is what you want http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=69  But shop around!

No need to worry about plugging your system into your TV, pretty much all PAL TV sets (bar 100Hz ones) will display NTSC perfectly fine.  In fact, it's hard to find one that can't display NTSC these days!  So unless your severely unlucky, you will be able to plug your console in fine.
Most PAL TV's have A/V sockets these days, but if not, just pick up an RGB SCART cable when you get over here.
