Vga Port Schmitttrigger

Hi!
I'm trying to build a VGA port into my Xbox. The problem is I could only get 74LS14 Schmitttrigger. The guy at the shop told me it would need a 5V supply and the HC would at least need 3V.
My questions are:

1. How can the HC work with 1.5V as suggested in the guide on xbox-linux.com?
2. What supply voltage should I use for the LS I bought?

As I understand it, the 1.5V is used as a reference voltage only. I haven't tried this mod myself yet, but I hope to (and have a tut of sorts) in the next week or so (when I get my replacement mobo).

could be... i guess i'll jsut power it with 5V and see what happens if the ic burns out i lost 20 cent so fuck it :D
