is your xbox softmodded? if so xboxdash.xbe need's hexed to locate the font files.

I had The error 21 problem about 2 days ago, turns out if you have TSR on in the older Evox buids, it fucks with your ms dash. try that, did it for me....

(BTW, doesn't really matter if you have a Chip or TSOP flash, they function the same software-wise.)

I believe TSR is the same for xbox(terminate and stay, its in the Evo-x settins under Misc) and that would mean when you quit out of the Evo-x dash it stays resident, Stock dash detects this and Says,"Bite my Shiny metal ass"

(That's my guess anyway, dont take this as an expert opinion, I just start the whole Xbox modding a week ago, but i have read a lot of the tuts and FAQs, so i have a good grasp of it)
And are you Turning off your Chip before booting the system? If so that wont work, The MS bios wont start Evo-x, Unless you are running it off a disk, then in that case I'm stumped..

P.S. if you want more proof MS sucks, Open up windows explorer in 2K/XP and Manually type in: "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5" (Where Administrator is your user account if different ) And find a little nicely hidden cache of every thing youve done in internet explorer, regardless of whether you clear your history or not, and while your there hit "up" And try to find it in the parent folder, Good luck...

Gday,

Had the same problems with my xbox, never used XBL and one day the MS Dash just refused to load. Fixed it yesterday though. Turns out I was missing a whole directory. I have no idea how it went missing, and I am certain I did not delete it.

My advice:

Get hold of the original C drive files and try to patch in the files you are missing.

Your C Drive should initially have:

Audio (folder)
fonts (folder)
xboxdashdata.1012a700 (folder)
xodash (folder)
xboxdash.xbe (file)

I was missing the xboxdashdata.1012a700 folder and thats why I was getting an error 21 msg. Once i copied the folder over it worked perfectly again. Check your files =)

I had installed a Xenium a few months back that would not load the XBox dash with an error 21 and I fixed by:

1) ****** Disconnect the network cable ******
2) Insert a recent "Original" XBox live enabled game (I think I used Full Spectrum Warrior or Riddick)
3) Within the game try to go to Xbox live and it will update your XBox's c:\ with new files from the disc. It will eventually give a connect error since the network cable is disconnected which is to be expected, simply ok through it until you return to the games main menu.
4) Reboot Xbox

Since the game disc updated the XBox's c:\ with the most recent live & xbox files from the game disc all the files for the MSDash should be matched and allow you to boot to it now. I haven't had a problem since. I'm assuming the live version on the disc has to be more recent then what's on your XBox for it to update but i'm not sure.

I had the same problem as you, but I just followed CubanX's advice and it worked!

This is how I did it:

1) -*-Made sure network cable was unplugged-*-
2) Booted up EvoX (modchip on)
3) Stuck Halo 2 in the drive and pressed "Launch DVD"
4) In Halo 2 I went to Xbox Live
5) Halo 2 copied over files and when it was done it said it had a connection error
6) Just press Yes or Ok for anything you see until you are returned to the EvoX dashboard (or maybe into your games' main menu)
7) Turn off Xbox

Turn modchip off
9) Boot up your now-working MS Dashboard!

i am having a problem with getting my dashboard up and running...
i just installed a X2lite 2.6 on a v1.1, it installed great and is flashed with a m8 bios, and i have 2 modded HD's that used to be on a v1.0 with a matrix, they never had a problem. but now with the new X2 chip all i ever get is "error 13" i have tried formatting and reinstalling with slayers, i can ftp using a boot cd i made and everything is there on the HD's for evox to run but i never does...

(in short, dashboard was working with matrix, now is not working with X2lite).. WHY?!?

I can't answer your question, mum1111, however I think you should start your own post in the appropriate section instead of something irrelevent at the bottom of someone else's thread.

Excuse me if you're actually talking about your MS Dashboard (then this is the right place!)

mum1111 - Make sure your harddrive is locked. Error 13 is a unlocked harddrive(I think)
