Evox Won't Load
« on: August 23, 2004, 12:20:00 AM »

blink.gif I'm sorry, I know this topic has come up, I've searched and searched the forums for an answer I haven't tried, but to no avail.I'm a bit of a nooB, but I am competent. My problem is that my dash just won't load up, and I've literally tried everything that's been recommended to remedy this. I've Had a TSOP flashed box(not sure what version, the one that came out last year with star wars/tetris worlds)with a Maxtor 160 GB HD for a little under a year now. The place that did the modification is no longer there so I essentially are on my own. Last night I put a couple music videos on f/videos, played a couple games, the usual. I got home from work today and tried to play a dvd, and it just started looping at the green xbox logo with MS on the bottom. i made a proper boot disk iso using craxtion with dummy file(about 7mb) named 00000000.dat, changed "evoxdash.xbe" to "default.xbe", included the .ini file, burned it to a cd-r using Nero through "file-burn image" and it WILL NOT read on my comp. Still, when i boot my XboX with the disk it just keeps looping.I've also tried Slayer's evox installer, but it's just the same. Am I missing something? I don't know what else to do. I still have the original HD as well, with same version of Evox on it, can I swap files off an XboX HD using my computer?I'll be leaving my box on tonight, as I read that in the forums. I'm completely heartbroken, someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! sad.gif

Thanx beerchug.gif ....No, I definitely DON'T want to use the old HD! All of my games are backed up on my 160 GB and all my game disks are in another state!!!!!So this is my only hope.... Right now I'm using a comp USA 650 MB CD-RW,although it's not new.I know that I don't have a samsung because when i got the mod done the guy was wondering why I didn't have one, even though I didn't have a refurbished box. At this point I'm making a bigger dummy file(500 MB) to see if that helps with the boot. I can hear the drive spinning and the light stops blinking about the same as when there's am XboX game in there, so I hope this works.....but now I unfortunately have to go to work.

huh.gif Well, that didn't work either. I guess all that I can do now is just experiment with some different cd-rws and hope for the best.....Is there any sort of compatibility list that anyone can refer me to as to what disks work with what drive? Also, is there any sort of contingentcy plan if this doesn't work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...... unsure.gif

grr.gif ok,now i'm REALLY confused...when I put in the original HD,IT JUST KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING!!!!I dont know what it could be! I have a phillips dvd drive, I know that now.......when I tried turning it on wihtout the dvd drive plugged in it just says i need technical support with a little number at the upper left hand side, and when I turned it on w/o the HD plugged in it just sat at the MS logo,no blinking or anything.......so i dont think its my HD.....What could it be......i thought that using the original HD would work, but like I said it just keeps doing the same thing........AHHHHHHHHHH

QUOTE (theman0521 @ Aug 24 2004, 03:17 PM)
First of all yes there is a list for what cds work best, it is pinned in the back up forum under the Important/ Key threads. After you find that the first thing you should try is to put the old hdd back in and make sure the xbox works. That will tell you ther is a problem with your hdd or dash files. If you don't have the drive or the ability to swap it then just skip it.

Most likely you will have to find the right cdrw. Unfortunately, I think when the xbox doesn't load the dvd drive becomes more picky for some reason. After mine broke the disc I originally used to load evox would not read.

Also are you sure that you are burnig it right. If you are using nero you should be making an iso before burning. Check the iso, it should be about the same size as all the files put into it. I have had some programs make a 2 meg iso from 500 meg of files. Don't Forget to burn on the slowest possible speed.

Good luck with it, I know it sucks, but this is probably your problem.

sorry - i dont mean to take over ur topic - the same problem just happened not even 5 minutes ago - the dashboard wont load - i was playing ninja gaiden - and then i got a dirty disk error -  i restarted - and my xbox wont get past the main screen - it shows executor 2 at the bottom -
i did what u said - i put in the old harddrive - it boots up fine - im able to play games off the cd etc -  so how do i know if its the harddrive or dash?  i dont have evox on my old hd.
is it possible that the game somehow corrupted my 120 gb hardrdive?  im going to try using a boot disk - i have the samsung drive - what media should i use? cd-rw?
is it possible to make the harddrive slave on a PC - so i can access files - in case somehow the harddrive is fucked up in some sectors?

thanks
