Ms Dash Not Working In Evox
« on: August 14, 2004, 08:34:00 AM »

I installed Evox on 30 gig HD (using UDE exploit).  However, when I click "MS Dashboard", the Evolution X logo displays, then it returns to Evox. Is there a way to fix my MS Dash via FTP?

thanks!

I have a backup of my M$Dash on my computer.  What do I need to do to fix it on my Xbox?  Also, will this adversely affect my softmod (UDE)?

thank you!

I have th exact same problem. Check your evox.ini file and if it has this line;

MSDashBoard   = "c:\xboxdash.xbe"

and you followed the evox tutorial it told you to rename your original xbox xbe to msxboxdash.xbe

so you can see from the above line that your new evox.ini dash is pointing to your evox dahsboard hack, because the xboxdash.xbe is now your default evox dashboard. My advise is to change the line to read msxboxdash.xbe and see what happens.

I haven't tried this yet as the possible sollution just occured to me smile.gif seeings though I need a fix muself smile.gif  I will try it in a few minutes, am in the middle of copying something at the moment...

Good luck.

Ragnar999,
thanks for the tip.  I beleive my MS Dash was renamed xbøxdash.xbe.  I didnt have the line in my evox.ini, so I added: MSDashBoard = "xbøxdash.xbe"

now, it starts to load the MS Dash (progress!) but then freezes when the screen starts to turn green.  Below are the instructions I followed to softmod my xbox, if that helps.  thank you!

What to do:

First, FTP to your Xbox and go into the /C/fonts/ directory. Download both font files (Xbox Book.xtf and XBox.xtf ) into the fønts directory that came in this rar (/C/fønts). Once XBox Book.xtf and XBox.xtf are in the fønts directory on your computer, go ahead and delete the fonts directory on your Xbox (/C/fonts/). Next delete xboxdash.xbe that is in the root of your Xbox's C drive.

If you have the double-dash exploit installed or any other exploit, make sure there is no *.xtf files in the root of your Xbox's C drive (delete bert.xtf & ernie.xtf, well anything with an .xtf extension if they are there).

Copy all the contents inside the "C" directory provided in the rar you obtained this readme from to your Xbox's C drive

And copy all the contents inside the "E" directory provided in the rar you obtained this readme from to your Xbox's E drive

Now you will need to place any xbe you would like to be loaded (renamed to "default.xbe") in the root of your C drive *note: the xbe you rename to default.xbe and place in the C drive does not need to be signed*

Note: the xbøxdash.xbe provided is a hexed 4920 xboxdash.xbe. This is for booting to the original dashboard if necessary.

Sorry can't help you any further. I tried my own advice and works a treat smile.gif

I have my sexbox chipped with Aladdin and am using EvoX Dashboard.

Don't know about soft mod, but my entire evox.ini looks like this, maybe you can use parts of it.

thanks for the info.. still same problem.. this is probably an incredibly stupid question, but are there other files needed besides the original "xboxdash.xbe" to run the MS Dash?  I have Slayers 2.5 and access to all the files, I just don't know what else I am missing.

edited to add: I put the folder "xboxdashdata. 1012a700"  (from Slayers) in my C drive.. still same problem

It occured to me the reason it is now freezing is becuase you have deleted the original MS Fonts from the fonts dir.

You need some way of telling the system to look for the fonts somewhere else other than the fonts dir.

As I understand it your soft mod in order to work needs the fonts dir to be empty.

I dunno how u can get around it...

ah, so that is why the MS Dash won't load.  My softmod did require me to delete the Fonts diretory, and replace it with "C:\fønts".  The file "xbøxdash.xbe" is supposadly patched to see the fønts directory, but I guess it isnt.  How do I patch it myself?

thank you again for all of your help! I'm trying to get the MS Dash back by tues, since I'm getting a new HD tv and want to change my video settings, etc...

xbøxdash.xbe is loading the fonts from C:\fønts that's why your version of EvoX is working.

However when u edited the line MSDashBoard = "xbøxdash.xbe"
to load your original MSdahboard it is loading that but the orig MSDash also needs the orig fonts which it isn't able to find.

What does your evox.ini file look like?

Maybe there is someway to include a Fonts = whateverdir line in the ini file. I looked in my ini file but couldn't find an example to go by.

Something just occurred to me: I don't think I ever found xbøxdash.xbe.  It wasnt included with the UDE package, and I think I just renamed the original dash. I'll check the usual places now and try to find xbøxdash.xbe

edit: just checked the usual places.. still can't find xbøxdash.xbe. I think that is my problem, because after re-reasing my UDE instructions, xbøxdash.xbe is apparently patched to let you use the MS Dash.  Problem is, I can't find it..

SUCCESS!!!  To finally fix it, I HEX edited xbøxdash.xbe and changed "fonts" to "f0nts" (couldnt figure out how to type "ø"). Then I created a "f0nts" directory on my xbox and copied the fonts from c:\fønts... and now it works!!
