Problem With Ftp
« on: July 28, 2004, 11:40:00 AM »

hey guys, i'm a noob so please excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject... I recently installed evox and it seems that now i cant' get my pc and xbox to ftp... what i have done is i bought a crossover cable... tried messing with the ip settings on my pc and it seems that the blue ip address (the one you can't change on evox) keeps coming up as 0.0.0.0.... i've looked through the tutorials and tried what they have said... it just seems that i'm missing something... could someone give me step by step on how to do this running winxp and evox... thanks in advance

^^Yeah, that should do it. But reboot the box after you change StaticIP to "yes" -- else you'll be banging your head against the wall wondering why it's not working.

Are you running evox from the FF disk?  You need to run it from the hard drive, and make sure you select 'Save and Exit' at the bottom of the settings page, don't just hit B or it won't save.

I had this prob when I used the default settings of the .ini file.

However... I set my IP XB addresses to 192.168.0.10. and it's fine. I'm using a hub, though. But at least you know what you are looking for in terms of an IP address.

Have you tried "pinging" the XB to see if there's a network connection solid?

Connect the network cables and reboot your XB without any cds in it. Open your settings and check out the blue info: make a note of the IP address it's displaying. Line Status should say something as well, if it can see your PC.

Then, on the PC got to Start > Run > and put "cmd" in the box and hit OK. You'll get a DOS prompt.

Just type (without the " marks) "ping 192.168.0.2" (or whatever the XB was giving you as an IP address) and it should come back with 3 lines like this:

Reply from 192.168.0.10: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=64

If it's coming back with "Request timed out." then there's something wrong with the network, cable, card, etc and you'll need to fix this before you have any chance of connecting.

I'm actually a noob, but when I had problems I changed the actual .ini file to my preferred static IP settings by burning another Evox boot CD and booting with this. Then when I connected, I copied the .ini over to the XB. Hope this helps...
