Installing New Hdd With Evox...

Get evox files
If the xbe file included is named anything other than default.xbe rename it to default.xbe.
You may wish to add a large 'dummy' file to make the disc easier to read.
Create an Xiso of the files ensuring you maintain the directory structure and that default.xbe is in the root of the iso. Use an app such as SimpleX or Qwix for this.
Burn the iso (Nero6: Recorder > Burn Image , Nero5: File > Burn Image).

I also noticed that it loads the flubber anitmation and the Xbox logo pops on the screen, then it hangs there for longer than it normally does, and the MS logo never appears at the bottom of the screen. Then of course comes the "Service required" screen, with a 07 in the top left corner. What could this mean?

It should list on the screen what the 07 error means.

I just did it,   I used the same files i used to install evox on old harddrive and backup.
1.  I change evoxdash.xbe back to default
2. Changed evox, looks like u have it right.
3. i add the backup files to folder(with skins(optional), dummy file(600mb, im using cd-rw), default.xbe. evox).  i didnt do the whole folder, just the files.
4. created an xiso(same for the first evox cd)
5. burn cd
6. load cd in xbox
7. make new drive
8. i think the tut. u listed explains the rest.

i hoped i helped like other have done for me.

bah i didnt read that last post before i sent it.

You could be receiving that error from the xbox not being able to read ur cd.  cuzz ur unformatted harddrive has no info on it.  But i keep putting in the cd until it read(then i formatted the new HDD).  I was getting error 13 (unable to boot dash)

also keep ur ide and power connections to ur hardware.

Thanks for the input. You say you followed the tutorial too, and it worked out for you? But for that whole backup folder of files from the Xbox's C partition, you just added the files, not the actual folder to the boot disc? And you suggest I keep trying to get the Xbox to read it and (hopefully) it'll eventually get it? I did suspect the Xbox was having trouble reading the media, although it's served it well so far, and possibly because the HDD is right out of the box, never even plugged in before. I'll keep at it, and you guys keep adding input, this can't be impossible.

When I loaded Evox onto my Xbox, I kept getting the boot up screen then it would hang, then the flashing button with the screen telling me to contact support. But I quickly realized that I forgot to plug back in the power to the HDD. Is everything plugged back in? Double check. My HD was also right out of the box and after I put the cd-rw in, Evox loaded up and I was then able to format the HD. After that I ftp'ed into my Xbox and transfered the backup that I made earlier of the root directory (C:) onto the C: directory on the new HD. Also, make sure you're burning the cd-rw on the slowest speed and include a "dummy" file.

Great advice. Could you tell your HDD wasn't fully plugged in, because I think I can hear mine firing up and spinning. I'll implement your burning tips into my strategy, thanks for the input.

How about this, tell me EXACTLY what files should be on my HDD-setting up EvoX boot disc. Once I get that, we can eliminate it as a possible source of error. Also, the stock Seagate HDD was set to cable select, so maybe I should keep this new one on cable select too? And should I try using the IDE cable that came with the new HDD, it tells me to use in the manual?

UPDATE: I just put the original HDD back in and tried out the latest HDD-prepare EvoX boot disc and it worked first try, gives me the option to setup the new drive, etc. I didn't of course. The original HDD is set to cable select. When I boot it with the chip Enabled, Bank 1 and Protected, it does the whole load sequence, Xbox logo, MS logo, then goes to the original MS dash. Is this supposed to happen because this is what it's been doing all along for this setup, and I'm pretty confident the M7 flash went fine.

I don't know what I should do next. Someone suggested that my d0 point isn't soldered correctly, but could I have gotten this far successfully with a disconnected d0?  I don't know what to do next. Instal EvoX on the stock HDD or something?

Alright, I booted into EvoX using the HDD-preparing boot disc on the stock HDD fine as usual, yet the new WD 250GB one still gives me that 07 error on cable select or master. I had an idea though. Could I hook up the new HDD to my PC and put the files I backed up from the stock HDD on it that way, or do anything else to it to get it to work properly if it were hooked up to my PC? Maybe put the stock HDD back in the Xbox, new one in PC, fire up EvoX, make FTP and copy everything from the old HDD to the new one?
