Having A Problem Installling Evox Off The Disc
« on: April 18, 2004, 01:30:00 PM »

I've installed the X2.3b lite chip and flashed with a 1mb bios (4977) and now I'm trying to get it to read the EvoX CDRW I created.  The file is renamed to default and I used Craxton to make the image and my dummy file is about 200megs.  Now when I reboot the box it reads for a couple of secs and then the EXECUTER2 pops up and then the screne goes to the original dash and a box pops up and says the disc is damaged bla bla bla.  Now this is the first time I put a 1mb bios on the chip ....could that be it? Or when I went to install the wires into the external switch the little white plug part broke and I soddered them to the switch, so could one of those connections be cold?  Or am I just used to the EvoX dash coming up too quickly in my other installs and I am spoiled now and should have to reboot it over and over another thirty times.
More info ...it's a version 1.0 box, Thompson dvd drive, using a Maxell DVD-RW.
Some help would be really good right now, I'm confused because the EXECTURE2  is still popping up on the screen.  Is my bios ok or did I mess it up mabey?

This problem isn't bios related.  You have successfully flashed your chip and see the xecuter logo on your screen then you're doing something wrong with your boot disk.  Try using different media.  Try renaming your dummyfile to "1".

Hey partner, I know what you are going thru, I have just been there. Thompson drives are a pain in the neck and lower.

I tried dvd's and nothing. the things that worked for me were memorex althogh maxell should do just fine but I had cd-rw when I had an iso file to burn I used nero to just burn the image. When I needed to burn bios I would get my bios and dummy file from xp and send them to my cd drive and used the xp program to burn them.

I know it's desperating, I spent 3 weeks off and on and finally managed to get Slayers working this weekend and it's great. So far I do not have the time to mess with all types of install and Slayers has just about everything done for you. It may not be the best but for me it will do. take your frustating time enjoy it and with thompson a good cd-rw from xp will do. Hope it helps.

Tutorials in this section are excellent, the noobe guide to everything is great and if you can or when you can try 4983 bios. I made a choice and installed my cromewell 1mg and then 4983.86 512 to bank 1, this way whenever I want to change my bios to the chip I boot up from bank two load 1mg of cromewell then switch to bank 1 and load 512 of what ever I want this way I keep what I want and change what I want when I want. Lots of luck friend. Patience and tutorials. Hope this helps.

Ok I'll give renaming the dummy file to "1.dat" and putting it on a DVD-RW a try.

lol if your a complete idiot like me, which isn't likely  :uhh:  , then you might have created the cd with an image burned on the CD, not the data from the image. I used nero and dragged my iso onto the burn list and burnt it. Took me about a week and 7 cds to figure out that I needed to go to file->open and then open the iso from there, so the data FROM the iso gets transferred to the CD, not the iso itself. Figured it out when i put my cd in the drive and saw evox3935.iso :o .

lol yeah, your probably not that stupid like I am, but you probably wanna go ahead and stick your cd into the drive to make sure you didn't do that <_<

Your right, I'm not. That was the first thing I checked, but hey thanx for the idea though, I'm sure it's something small like that has been overlooked and I need something like your post to help find it.

Just an update...the renaming the "1.dat" file didn't work. I'm gonna go out on a limb and change the "default.xbe" and rename it back to "EvoXdash.xbe" and see if that works...I don't know I'm grasping....

Well I finally got the DVD-RW to read and here is what I had to do.

It was taking way to long for the Thompson drive to work and I don't think it would have.  So I got a buddies XBox and took his Samsung drive out and put it in replacing the Thompson and BINGO. It read the disc on the first try now I can put the Thompson back in and and put this two week old install to bed already.

I would advise anyone in this situation to try the same if you have a trusting enough friend.

Thanx all for trying to help
