So basically...

If a person wants a computer and he/she buy one from Dell, he/she is either

A. Lazy
or
B. Retarded

Yes, that is correct

I think some of you are missing the point. There are two kinds of Xbox users. I think you are either:

a. Someone who constantly tinkers with their Xbox, updating software, customizing menus, reflashing BIOSes, etc etc.

or

b. Someone who just wants to get their Xbox up and running so they can get on and do with it what they wanted to in the first place - play games.

I use Slayers CD - does that make me retarded or Lazy? Well, lets see:

I want to make an Evox Boot CD.

I also want to add some menus to it, so I can perform different functions such as formatting a HDD, restoring a good copy of MS Dashboard, running some useful programs such as ConfigMagic etc. With this CD I'm gonna make, I can use it on a modded Xbox and use these functions, regardless of what's on that persons HDD.

If I did all of the above whilst knowing that I could just download an Install CD ready-made, *THEN* you can call me retarded. You would have to be to go through that lot when you know there's a quicker way of doing it.

As for reading guides, the Evox guides on this site alone are (mostly) outdated. Telling ppl to rename xboxdash.xbe - the backlash is that they come back here after their Xbox doesn't boot with the chip disabled and have no idea why!

Martin

PS I would advise ANYONE to buy a Dell over building your own PC - you get technical support with Dell, instead of 200+ people giving you bad advice. Before you ask, yes I'm quite capable of building my own PC and ran a very successful business doing so.

What a condescending post. Yes, if you do it manually, you will learn everything up front. But installing apps on an xbox is really freaking easy. If you do run into a problem down the road, you can learn how to configure them manually with very little effort.

That's right, it is really easy and it can be done with very little effort.  So why shouldn't someone put forth that little bit of effort to understand what they are doing?

Using Slayers doesn't make me lazy or retarted. I work in IT, and when we install a new box, we don't sit in front of it and punch keys. We use install scripts or images. That doesn't make us lazy, either. It makes us effecient.

Am I wrong in assuming that you have some knowledge of how the scripts or images work?  One look at these forums can show how effecient people are when trying to blindly mod their machines.

This isn't rocket science. Don't think that you're somehow technically savvy just becuase you copied a bunch of files into a directory and edited some .ini file.

Because it is indeed so easy to install apps on an xbox, I would argue that NOT using an auto-installer simply makes things tedious. I'd rather be playing a game, watching a movie, or *gasp* heading outside.

Talk about condescending.  I'm not pretending to be mr. fuckin wizard, nor am I trying to start a technical aptitude pissing contest.  My whole point here is that this shit is simple if you take a little time to educate yourself.

QUOTE
A noob who uses slayers, then posts a simple problem, isn't lazy because he used slayers. He's lazy because he posted before he read up on whatever problem he's having. They're 2 seperate issues.

I'll admit the title could have been worded differently, however if they are seperate issues they are certainly closely related.

Nothing like good ol' fashion learning. When using a disc that does everything for you, you fail to learn the general concepts and if something breaks you are back at square 1. I suggest reading a learning as it will make it a lot easier for you.

EXACTLY!

As I said before, I don't have a problem with using slayers provided you have at least a basic understanding of what the hell it does.  However, I do not agree that it provides a significant advantage over simply adding what apps you want, at least then you can have current files.  Sure you have to go to all the trouble of making an image, I know how tedious this can be having to wait a minute or two. huh.gif   Oh but wait! maybe the disc will burn faster without all that extra bullshit... just think of the time that could save you! rotfl.gif

And while you're at it, throw in the "that part can be got from 'the usual sources' "
but only actually refer to those sources whereabouts once in an obscure post buried 8 pages deep.
And now slayers and their ilk make life so much easier, no hunting around anymore, it's all accessible, simple and quick.

If you can find slayers, you should have no trouble finding the "usual places" and when you find that, there's no hunting around, it's all right there. And the whereabouts are not buried 8 pages deep. I never even heard of mirc before I came to the scene, hell I never even used FTP before but I found all the information I needed right here and all I had to do is read a little. Granted it could have been easier if others would take some initiative and do some research instead of flooding the forums with repeatitive dumbass questions.

Oh well, thats enough ranting.

Just wondering why so many people seem to have so much trouble with this.  I don't think I had a single post in these forums until well after my box was up and running with a chip, evox and a new hdd all without slayers or anything like that.  The amazing thing about it is all you have to do is read a little bit (and all of the necessary info is readily available)before you jump right in a fuck shit up or flood the scene with dumbass questions simply because you're LAZY.

However if in fact you are retarded, I apologize if that seemed harsh.

I had some problems when I first started modding my box and after alot of reading and a F'd up Motherboard and executer chip later I was on my way to chipping and installing software(manually) on 3 different types of Boxes.
In alot of cases it's not a matter of being lazy or not having solder skills, etc. It's because of so many different ways to install the chip and the software and the multitudes of tutorials that sometimes conflict each other. Once you know exactly how to install a chip, find the software and properly burn it to a suitable media, It's very easy to modify an xbox.

I used slayers right after i install the chip and flash it, so i can just FTP over the files, and I use slayers to format the drives, it isn't a bad disc to have

I must be retarded because I just don't get why it should bother you that people use an install disk.  I did a softmod on my box a year ago and people were complaining about other people not buying a mod chip. lifes too short for this shit man, just enjoy your box or get outside and enjoy the weather. it is summertime now you know.

^ Definitely. I have friends who have used Slayers and I try to talk to them about modding. They have no idea about anything beyond booting the Slayers disc and choosing something on the menu. When their xbox breaks, I have to fix it because I actually know how the xbox works.

What if the person just doesn't have the time to get all of the apps...but why do stuff the hard way when you can get most of your apps at once and add and delete as you see fit...this is a dumbass poll that needs to be locked.
