I would hope that the Slayer support channel educated people about what it is and what it could be.

The exact opposite at times.  I have seen an op tell a user that slayers was NOT evox, that is was an app coded by slayer, 'end of story'.  Pretty comical indeed.

Slayers Cd is a good idea, yes, and it can be used for great things. The problem does not lie with Slayer, but with people who wan't everything fast and easy. People come up to me and ask me, oh, can you make my xbox do that? I tell them that they have to teach themselves about the whole modding scene because having a modded box is useless unless you know how to operate it. Slayers is good, but you need to understand what it is doing, and what the things called "dashboards" and "bioses" are on it.

amen to the last post.  I like to get the basic idea of what a program is doing for me, but that doesn't mean I'm lazy for not understanding every single line of code that goes into the making of it.   Some people do just want things to work without devoting much time, they are sacrificing knowledge for time.  If the time is more important, then its fine to take the easy way out w/ programs like slayers.  If a person is really interested in learning something, then they'll have to devote the time to it sooner or later.  If they're not interested in it, then there's nothing wrong with the easy way out.

well First off I'm a Newb, an a God damn big 1 at that!, I will admit that when I first came along an looked about how-2 do this stuff, I got confused, so I found auot-installers, but after reading more about them, I realized I didn't really want 1, by the time I download 1, some software may get outdated on it, then I'd end up learning how 2 upgrade on my own. so I decided I just do it the hardway an Learn, cause it could be until June before my Budgit can allow me 2 splurge for the new Hardware(Chip, HDD an Chip Programmer), tight budgit(some can relate), so I got 4 Months or so 2 read an Learn all I want. I've decided on a Chip(X2 V2.3b lite +), witch is a No-Solder Mod since I really Can't Solder at all, I'd show u my Tech Class make of my own board an Solder job, but inmage the biggest slop mess ever!, I havn't Bothered Deciding on a BIOS yet witch only Makes sense, 4 Months down the Road there's gonna be somthing better anyway, so I havn't Learned allot about it(except a Bit about how 2 Flash the Chip), I already knew how 2 do all the Hardware setup, since I have done some work with PCs before, the software setup here is all new, so Learning must be done. Right now I'm basicly Learning about how EvoX works, an other Things 2 do with it, next on my List would be how 2 get things 2 work with XBOX Live, then XBMP an XBMC, then a Few Emus, how 2 Backup Games, an some other things I can't think of right now or havn't thawt of yet, but as u can see, I do have allot 2 learn, but I'm getting there an it may be a while before I'm up 2 speed, you could say I'm still that Grandma Tryan 2 Drive with the Parking Brake still on... I personally wouldn't say that Slayers is a Bad thing, but for me I don't wish 2 use it, it may be the easy way, but when/if somthin go's bad, I'd like 2 be able 2 know what that was, how 2 fix it, or atleast have enough knowledge about the scene to post/search for a solution with as little 'leeching' done 2 the scene. some ppl would Agree that for som1 that knows nothing that I should just take the Easy way, but I know that when I do it the Hardway an learn this stuff an get it all customized 2 my liking an have it running smooth, that I will more satusfied then I would be if I used the easy-auto-instll stuff, I feel Pride when I can say that I learned the Hardway an did things the Hardway, I am known 2 be Lazy, but som things I just don't wish 2 be lazy about. thats Just my 2 Cents

This thread really cracks me up. Ruining the scene what kind of stone age shit is that?? Hey moron why don't  you go back to running your system in DOS? Oh and by the way do you use Explorer to navigate the net? No No better brush up on your Linux commands. Things like Slayers do not kill the scene they make it better now someone will be inspired to do an even better job that is called progress!!! It must take you awhile to crank up the phone so you can log onto your dialup. And how does that model A ride? Join the future Dumbass.

Yeah, this thread is pretty stupid.  Maybe people shouldn't drive cars unless they know everything about them.  Maybe you shouldn't be allowed to eat something if you don't know how it was made.  Hell, just don't use anything unless you know how it works and/or was made.   What you are saying doesn't make much sense.

If you think your a god because you can manage a FATX hard drive, then your not fooling anyone.  The Slayers Auto Installer, is an excellent start to loading a modded XBOX Hard Drive.  The included skins are decent, and the installed menu script is fool proof with out any dangerous options for noobs. I myself have modded the slayer Disc to more my liking.  I have burned it to a DVD-R and have included: Updated Flash Bios screens, many more skins, and a descent selection of emulators, minus roms of course.

Ive been in the computer world since 93, and I can say, XBOX is the Dos lovers Dream.

Thank you Team Executer for turning  XBE into straight up EXE's.

And much respect to the Scene people.

smile.gif  The way I look at is if people are lazy and would like to use an Auto-Installer, they should take the time to learn the fundamentals on how it actually works.... many times I have seen learners use an auto-installer and then the system not functioning to what they think should have done, then get all pissy and jump into IRC and bash the creator.  I myself have used the installer but only to read the evox.ini file and see how it was actually operating in regards to flashing with different bioses.

I think Auto-Installers are a good idea as long as people understand that by using it their system is going to be exactly one way and in order to modify it they will have to learn at least the basics, it will not be fed to them with a golden spoon.  You can give eveybody the same tools, but only a hand few will have this thing called LOGIC (commen sense) and take the time to understand what it is doing to the machine and how to use the tool properly. Also what most people need to understand (if I ruled the world) is that YOU are liable for using software that is called beta, you use it your own risk not the Authors.  As far as the car analgy goes... I disagree, you do have know the basics of braking / accelartion / gas / right of way.  If I tell you this car has a history of catching fire I would drive it your own risk, then who would be the dumbass that get's in the car and drives it?  I'm not saying be a mechanic, just know what you are getting your self into and don't cry if it's not to YOUR expectations.

Sometimes I don't really know why teams / indivuals like Slayer even bother, they probably do it for the love of the HOBBY, and they are sure more tolerant then I ever would be.  Anyway's thanks for everything......

This is one guy's opinion, take it with a grain of salt, have a rum and coke and fire up Mameox....
