Slayers Auto Format Help?
« on: January 17, 2004, 09:34:00 PM »

Hi I just got slayers today for the reason of formatting my 120gb back to an original state. All I wanted to do was to completley erase my c and e partitions and return them to stock then leave my f drive intact as it is with all my games and install evox and everything onto f drive with an f drive bios. What i discovered though is that the option to format just c and just e drive all it does is completley erase the 2 drives and doesnt install ms dashboard or any folders, the only way according to the manual to format the c and e drive and make it install the dashboard is when you do a full erase and install which completley erases the f drive to! So what I am really asking is there a way with slayers to format c and e drive and install the ms dashboard without formatting f drive. The reason i dont want 2 fdormat my f drive is because i have 100gb of data on there that i cannot transfer to my computer as i only have a 60gb hd. Anyone got any ideas other than buying a 120gb for my computer....

Yeh thanks a lot but I did! There is 5 options in the doc, 1. format entire xbox with no data put on hd just the partitions setup, 2. format entire xbox back to stock with ms dashboard, 3. format just c partition which just completley erases it and doesnt install anything, 4. completley erase just e partition which does the same as c installing no files and then lastly 5. completley erase just f partition! SO thanks but i have read it what i was trying to ask was is there a way to make it format just c and e and install all the files!!!

yeh but from what the tutorial that comes with it says is that if you choose the complete format onyl c option it erases everything on c drive then does not install anything on it, eg. ms dashboard etc. This is excatly what it says in the manual for this option..
"Caution this will erase all data on C: and the xbox will not boot in this condition using a standard bios or retail bios." So therefore it means i wont be able to load anything ms cos it has nothing on my c drive. Anyone please tell me if im wrong because thats just how i interprut the manual, i actually want me to be wrong and it actuall does install the ms files.

yeh id be able to boot to slayers or something on the f drive if i had an f drive bios but that is not what im trying to accomplish, what i want to accomplish is a complete format of my c drive and then replace it with everything original, no mod related stuff on it. But the onl way i can actual restore it toa retail state is by choosing the option to entire format which i cant do.

When you use a boot disk - the xbox boots of the media in the DVD Drive (So even if you had a blank HD in the XBox, the XBox will still boot).

Your bios first looks for an XBE in the DVD drive and then the HD (its called the boot order of the bios).

Hope that helps... biggrin.gif

Yes your right  i could do that but your not understanding what i want done..... I could totally format my c drive and e drive and they would have absolutely nothing on them by doing option three and four but then that is not what im trying to accomplish.... What i want is to simply format my c drive, because it is full om modchip related crap and i think im possibly missing a file, then restore it to a retail state... But the only way to restore the hd to a retail state is if few choose the restore to retail sate option.... but yet again this option formats your f drive as well and as i have 100gb of data and games, movies etc on there i dont want 2 format it as i cant back it up to my computer because i only have a 60gb hd... so choosing the option to format just c and e does NOT actually restore your hd to a retail state, eg ms files etc. all it does is format the c and e drive so there are no files there.. do u understand what i mean now?
thanks for your help though anyways....

Dunno if this could work, but maybe format C:/E:, and FTP into your xbox, take the files from the DVD-ROM drive, and drag them to C:/E:, or to computer then to it.
