Wireless Problems
« on: January 07, 2004, 01:12:00 AM »

I've recently moved to wireless in my house which means i can finally have the xbox downstairs with the good tv. Hurrah. Bad news is, that evoX can't pick up an ip address when i'm using wireless. Fine wired, nothing wireless. How could this be? It works fine on xbox live over wireless.

I'm using quite an old version of evoX 1.8.3285 if i remember correctly. Are there known wireless issues with early releases or is something wrong in my settings?

Any help is much appreciated!

Switch to a static IP. Are you using one of those wireless ethernet bridge devices? (I guess you'd have to be, duh.)

Make sure you enter in the the wireless router information (192.168.0.1?) for all the dns entries....

(And no, the wireless bridge has nothing to do with evox or anything else....the xbox has no idea it's using a wireless bridge to begin with.)

yea what snart said is right.  I use that version of evox (the best one IMO) and use a WET11 most of the time.  Its something in your settings so maybe post your settings and more details and we can tell you what's wrong.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Ok, so here's my current IP config. Dynamically assigned so i've left the DNS settings and all other values unspecified.

[Network]

SetupNetwork   = Yes
StaticIP   = No
Ip      = 192.168.0.3
Subnetmask   = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway   = 192.168.0.1
DNS1      = 0.0.0.0
DNS2      = 0.0.0.0

In my network, I have a router (10.0.0.1) that's acting as DHCP server connected to a wireless bridge that provides wireless funcitonality. I think that the wireless bridge is 10.0.0.20

Would I be right in thinking that I should set up a static ip address for my xbox, say 10.0.0.3, and DNS1 would be my router, DefaultGateway would be my wireless bridge?

Thanks again for your help!

if your router is acting as a DHCP, it may limit its scope to a certain range. For example, it may only handle IP addresses from 192.168.0.1 through 192.168.0.64. therefore, if you want a static IP for the xbox, you may need to make it a higher IP like 192.168.0.150.
