Ms Dashboard Will Not Load - Error 21
« on: January 05, 2004, 02:55:00 PM »

I have modded lots of boxes, and one I just did recently will not load the MS Dashboard!  It comes up with an error 21.

I have named the evox 3935 file to evoxdash.xbe and left the MS dashboard as xboxdash.xbe.   Evox.ini file is pointing to it correctly, and all other files are on the C partition.

What gives?  Any ideas?  (bios is X2 4977.67)

Ms Dashboard Will Not Load - Error 21

Update:

I have tried to reload all the files on the C: drive, and nothing works.  I can boot to EVOX without any problems, but the MS Dashboard will not work at all.

I updated the Bios os X2 4980.67 and still nothing.

Strangely enough, this box, when I first started to work on it was fine (with original HD) but then later on before backing up the drive, and modding it the OEM drive failed to boot bast the animation screen.   Since there was no data on it, I thought nothing of replacing the drive and building a new one (which seemed to work and booted up).

Is there something on the box other then C: partition files that might have been messed up (hardware or files) that would prevent the MS Dashboard from working?!

Try Try Try...and you find the solution!

I put another OEM 10 gig drive in the box, and it loaded to the MS Dash without error.  I figured this drive either had the missing/corrupt files, or my other drive had corrupt data on the E: partition that was related to teh dashboard (First i wiped the E drive and it yielded no results...as I had figured)

I then noticed, that on this modded OEM 10 gig drive from another older box, there was also a folder called "c:xboxdashdata.17f14d00"

After copying the contents of this folder to the drive that was not working, the MS Dashboard now loads!  :)

My question:
The "xboxdashdata.17f14d00" is different from the one on the slayer's 2.5 CD called "xboxdashdata.1012a700".  Also the xboxdash.xbe files are different sizes, mine is 1.8mb while slayer's is 1.5mb (original OEM drive was like 1.3mb)

Can anyone explain the differences?  WHich is best to use, etc..?
