I have an xbox that ive had for bout 2 years, we just had a fire...the fire didnt touch it but i think the smoke caused some damage...bout a month after the fire the xbox started acting weird, wouldnt boot disc's right away and stuff like that....bout a month ago it just went out...not toatally the disc tray doesnt come out and the led blinks but it doesnt come out....on top of that there is no sound or video...ive switch the cables with another xbox and they work fine, should i just get a new xbox? or can i fix it...ive heard you can install a modchip and it will work...is that true?

ok, if i were a betting person, some ash or particles got in on the laser for the first part(loading), for the disk tray, it almost sounds like the gears are striped on the inside of the drive, but i SERIOUSLY doubt that a modchip will fix it, also, if it got hot enough... what happens to plastic(melts) and what happens to solder(duh, soldering irons), but if you are really trying to fix it, and dont have a warranty(already run out) open it up, check the gears on the drive, check the solder pts on the output connector area, and if some have no solder, or the solder melted and connected, either try and fix it, or get a new one. If you are looking for parts just try ebay, and put in xbox parts. be sure to know all the specs of your xbox, just look across the internet(version, pal or ntsc, so on so forth) and good luck

i recently had my dvd drive open to do a window and the little motor that pushes the dvd tray out actually drives a little rubber band that turns the gears so it might be something as simple as replacing a little rubber band
as for the video and sound i dont know
definitely open it up and clean it out
