Ok, here it is as I see it. Right now the Xbox has no video input device, right? Wrong.

In response to the PS2 EyeToy, MS announced an Xbox Live web chat camera thing. I'm sure the software for that could be used to take video in from elsewhere as well.

It's a start. Did anyone else think of this?

EDIT: Oh yeah, where might I find the thin client boot disc for the Xbox?

Where does the camera connect?  Through a game port?  That's USB, everyone did think of that, that's the only thing people have suggested.

If it connects some other way let me know as I don't know the specs of this thing.

Why the hell does the AV port on the Xbox say " Audio Video Input/Output"?

(Always wanted to ask that, but I've never found an appropriate thread)

Uh, because that's the words they molded into the plastic.  Doesn't mean the capability is there.

I am considering buying another Xbox just for MythTV.

It looks like a pretty stable release, and you don't have to have a MOD chip on your xbox.

OT - Does anyone know where I can get an inverter with 4 ports? You know the inverters that come with the CC lights only come with 2 ports. I need one with four.

Yeah, but it should still have some input functions.

Also, aren't there unused pins on the AV In/Out?

I believe I saw a dedicated forum somewhere for it on the net.  You might run a google search.  I only browsed for a few minutes but there seemed to be some happy people using MythTV (MythTV does not turn the Xbox into a PVR though to the best of my knowledge.  I believe it merely controls scripts sent to another system. - not sure if you realized this but worth looking into).

EDIT:
I did some checking - the Xbox MythTV is a front-end only which means you'll need something else to do the whole PVR encoding process while the Xbox seems to handle playback and menus:

It's possible using a USB TV adapter, but you wouldn't want to.

Xbox uses USB 1.1, which is way too slow for any sort of quality or even a smooth framerate. Believe me, I used a Hauppauge USB card with my laptop, and it was horrible.

Can't do it directly, the xbox has no video-in. It may be possible using some kind of USB TV Card in Linux, but i don't know much about that.

ButtersB

Hi I'm just nosing through here - if the xbox has no video in is the video in / out on the back next to the socket a misprint or did MS disable it for some reason ?

I never looked into it but thought in + out - wonder why that's there !
