All right here we go, I was able to download and correctly burn the Slayers ISO and can boot up to the main Slayers menu.

Then after I click on the Restore Retail Xbox HD to Factory and reboot to the Slayers menu, I click on number 4 Rebuild Retail HD on v1.x system and run the Rebuild v1.x retail HD-4920 and take the disc out and reboot, I still come up with Error 13.

Am I missing something here?  Is 4976.02 the problem here???  In the readme, it says to use 4977.    Did I answer my own question???  I will try to upgrade the bios and check.    blink.gif

The most likely cause of this is bad media, meaning you may not have used a "NEW" CD-RW or DVD-R to burn the installer ISO to.
another problem may be you have a Thomson DVD drive in the Xbox and are know for not reading burned media correctly.
there are ways around this problem using a PC dvd drive to install with or burning the ISO to a DVD-R should fix your problem.

Ok, certifiable n00b here.  Been doing my reading, tho, including all the SlaYer docs and all 40+ pages of this thread and I think I'm going to be ready to go.  Will have XBox with X-ecuter 2.3 Pro by the weekend (yea, the PRO cuz I don't plan to be a n00b forever - will become dangerous very soon).

Here's the question: The X-ecuter comes with FlashBIOS.  According to item #2 in the ReadMe, the SlaYer disk has a 1MB bios.bin (customized X2 4977 FC w/137G + support) in the root.  This means I don't need to go through the process of creating a padded bios disk for the initial flash, correct?  I can just stick the SlaYer disk in when prompted for a disk, let that default BIOS flash, and then I should be able to reboot and then run the 2.5 installer.

Uh, ok so it's not really a question, more of a "can you confirm I'm understanding what I read". Thanks!  wink.gif

Yes you read correctly, I will say not all xbox machines will read the bios.bin file on the root of the installer. it is not clear why some will and some wont but the results are if after several attempts the cromwell bios dose not load the bios from the disk make plans to make a bios flash disk. there is no way to force the xbox to read the file it is just a querk. I hope your xbox does read it to save you some time.

*****UPDATE******

I've solved problem #2 (above) -- undoubtedly it was just poor media, etc -- like everybody said -- used a virgin Imation 4x CD-RW & UltraISO and shazaam!

Still having the problem with the B&W video though (problem #1) -- if the xbox has been off for a while every thing is fine (in color) --but after about 15-20 minutes of being on (even just sitting in the evox dash) the video goes B&W -- all other functionality is unnaffected.

Any ideas? I've tried 3 different cables, and all other consoles/inputs work fine (VCR, CABLE, SAT, etc)

Because you stated this only came about after the chip install confirmed what I was thinking before reading the end of the first post and by the end of this post is that you have a solder splash or a some sort of short on a video trace on the motherboard.
because this goes away when the machine cools down it may also be a crackor damaged trace on the Motherboard, the reason i say this as the temp of the motherboard increases and the board expands the trace breaks connection or the shot makes contact and the results in color loss in the video. Check the board close for flaws caused by you or a stary piece of solder that got dropped or splashed during the install.

Is it possible to boot the slayer disc without a mod-chip, I have error16 and i need to get access to my xbox, i was wondering if yu can use this disc without a mod-chip

Is it possible? Yes with exploits and a bios loader it is possible...

However, SlaYer's doesn't support exploits, only modchips.  The modchip bios looks for the "default.xbe" file on the SlaYer's disc in order to boot, which is why a modchip is needed to boot the disc.

Error 16 is a dashboard error that is usually a system clock error.  What caused this error 16?  Could you give some more detail on what happened?

Here's a question...

How can I take these old xbox drives and format them for use in my PC?? I see Config magic unlocks the drive... is that all I need to do? anyone do it successfully yet? There's a tut on the site, but it says that I have to unlock the drive using some other tool... just wondering really if Configmagic does that work now... and does it make the password "TEAM ASSEMBLY" if you use configmagic?

screamstone

Once you have unlocked a retail xbox HDD in Config Magic you should have no problem slaping that badboy in your PC and formating it for Windows.

Thanks SS113 -- commencing with the magnifying lamp... I'll be back if I don't find any solder splashes or damaged traces (on the top layer of the PCB at least).

-- a quick comment though, wierdly enough, it seems that if you jiggle the cable, or only partially insert it (and hold it there with your hand), you can re-introduce the color. It would seem that the xbox is still sending color data to the cable socket, which makes me think there may be something amiss inside the socket itself, or with the socket's connection to the MB.  Just some thoughts, let me know what you think.

I haven't messed with it much, but I did use a new DVD-R Ritek for my disc.

I will try it with a new cd-rw and report back in a little while.

Ok, this is what I did.

I burned the .iso onto a Verbatim CD-RW at 2x.

Booted up, disc works.  Ran Clean Format of Retail Drive, rebooted.
Ran Restore Retail Drive to Factory, rebooted.
Ran 5-2 Install/Upgrade XBMP, Apps, EvoX- Retail HD c: then removed disc and powered down.

Use power only button to turn on and.... Oops! Error 13

What now????? uhh.gif  sad.gif   blink.gif   ohmy.gif   huh.gif

The new info about the video connector is a big thing. First if you look things over and find nothing wrong check thte solder connections of the Video socket to motherboard. If you dont see anything loose or wrong go ahead and heat each point to melt the solder good thes should fix a cold joint (a solder connection not making good contact) and cure the problem if it is at that point, after doing this and reassembling the Xbox see what the video results are if you get a repeat proformance of the B/W screen i would look at getting a new cable for the video. please post your findings so all can learn from your experiance.

Very cool mate, well done   biggrin.gif

Just one question, if you add your own skins to the installer skin folder, if theirs a large amount 100+ only half are installed and a load of spaces appear on the skin select menu, also applies if you add a lot of roms on the emu menus and the trainers ?.

Everything works fine if you ftp the files over but it would be nice to include it on the cdrw install.

Maybe its just me  blink.gif

Keep up the good work  beerchug.gif

Using the upgrade option on the menu btw,  5 - 5.2 (Retail full upgrade)

Hi guys,

I have installed the slayer 2.5 with X2 2.3b lite with X2 4979.06 1MB on bank 1. Everything works fine.

But I face problem on the IGR portion. On some games, when I press on the L,R,Back and Start key together, it halt with a black screen which I suppose it should restart and return back to the Evox dashboard. Any solutions or recommendation?

Another issue, I will also like to add XPMC to the dashboard which allows me to play rm files (i believe so), can someone guide me through or provide me with the links. So Sorry about it as I cant find it throughout.

Many thanks in advances.

Try L,R,Back and Black (instead of Start).  It's also best to do the IGR combo from the main menu of a game, not during a game load, etc.  You could also try turning off the IGR's in evox.ini (System Settings) since the IGR is in the X2 Bios itself.

As far as XBMC you can simply get it from #xbins on EFnet, unrar it to a folder, and then FTP that folder over to "Apps" directory on EorF (retail or large hdd) of Xbox and it will show up.  Keep in mind you should already have XBMP installed with SlaYer's though.  Good luck!  biggrin.gif

rc311:

I found that IGR was freezing my Xbox a lot (black screen of death) when I upgraded to  the 4979.06 BIOS, until I disabled IGR in all of the spots in the evox.ini, and now it works great; it seems to be even more reliable than the IGR in v4977!   biggrin.gif

Good luck.

Hey all how exactly can we make a dvd-rw (virgin of course) that has the:

12) Install GentooX Linux v2 Home in F:

Enabled. I know it involves downloading the gentoo iso and adding it to the slayers iso but i wasnt sure exactly.

Thanks!

Ande

Basically you just need to go to  GentooX Website and download the iso, burn it and boot the xbox with it.  Just make sure you read the attached Gentoox docs as far as where to install it, etc.  Beware it can flash your chip if you tell it to, so read up.  Good luck!
