I think the issue is that there are several versions of the msdash (they all look the same)and your xbox version isn't compatible with the one you downloaded.  Have you tried using a  boot disc and your original harddisk to transfer the original contents to your PC and then over to your new drive after reinserting it.  This is the best way to run 'stock' on an upgraded drive.

Your entire C drive should be there for completeness as well as anything on your E.  Don't overwrite your Evox files but all the stock files should be brought over from C:// - for a list just boot up, ftp in, and write them down providing you have a virgin or close to virgin original drive.  As for E:// it was your game saves and data so if everything is fine you may not need to copy everything back over again as the depth of the file heirarchies make it hard to transfer without making an error.

You would still need the correct MSDash which means you still need to get into your original drive and FTP it back.  At that point you might as well just replace everything and do it right.  Plus with your MSdash broken I am unsure if it will save the setting changes correctly especially considering setting changes on an optical disc can't be permanently altered.  My thought is that if you are going to spend 30 minutes doing it you might as well spend another thirty seconds doing it right.

im having the same problem, but i have the original msdash on it.  Is it possible that my evox.ini file has something wrong in it?

big boss: you said before that you downloaded a dash - there are several versions of the MS dash (they all look the same) - that's why Slayers comes with several of them in the case that there is a compatibility issue.  My line of thought was that if your evox.ini file is correct this may be the issue.  You could either locate the other versions of xboxdash.xbe and try them until success or you could get your original files that came with the xbox.  Put the stock drive in - Evox boot disc - FTP and get the C:// files - copy to your computer - put back in your upgraded drive - FTP into it and copy your original xbxo files to the c:// drive.  Will it work, maybe but you can at least take the msdash incompatibility out of the equation once you have the matching dash that came with your xbox.  Just because you downloaded an xboxdash.xbe off the web doesn't mean it's the one that goes with your xbox and will be compatible (there were variations to the MS dash 1.0 specific to different xbox versions).

Reaper: it is always possible that the ini file may be mislinked.  The best way is to examine it in notepad.  The sticky in the evox forum on setting up your ini file as well as the Newbies Guide to Evox are good points for reference (both are also in the tutorials section).
