Evox 3921 - HD Lock/Unlock
« on: September 15, 2003, 08:58:00 PM »

Hey guys, I just updated EVO X from ver. 1.8 3752 (just did a overwrite of the old C partition with the new one) Mainly because of the easier way to lock/unlock my HD which is a Maxtor 40 GB. (I miss going into the old MS dashboard)  I'm sure I did update successfully cause the new version # is posted on the bottom of the new dashboard, improved IGR, etc... But I don't see the these two menu selections the readme saiys I should have:

Lock Harddisk
Unlock Harddisk

Here's the piece of the script I'll be referring to:

[Menu]

Section "Root"
{
   Item "Launch DVD",ID_Launch_DVD
   Item "Trainers",ID_trainer
   Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash
   Item "Reboot",ID_Quick_Reboot
   Item "Power Off",ID_Power_Off
#   Item "Flash Evox BIOS","c:biosd6.bin",ID_Flash_Bios_File
#   Item "Lock Harddisk",@210
#   Item "Unlock Harddisk",@211
   Section "System Utils"
   {

I looked at the evox.ini file to make sure the script was correct and I see "Lock" and "Unlock" lines  below the "Flash Evox BIOS" line (..which for some reason ALSO isn't listed on my Dashboard  :grr: )

If that script is correct then shouldn't those two menu items be there? (Even Flash Evox bios should be listed on my dashboard menu, which isn't.)
Is there something I didn't do, although I DID read the readme?
Hell I even copied the trainer folder from the update rar ro the C partition and EvoX saw even it.  :boring:
This is at the end of the script that  tells me that those commands should be there:

[Action_10]

LogFile          = "f:lock.log"
Info "This function will lock your XBOX Harddisk"
Warning "You will now lock your XBOX harddisk and will be able"
Warning "to boot from an original XBOX bios"
#

hddlockenable

[Action_11]

LogFile          = "f:unlock.log"
Info "This function will unlock your XBOX Harddisk"
Warning "You will now unlock your XBOX harddisk and will not be able"
Warning "to boot from an original XBOX bios"
#
hddlockdisable

I would appreciate any help u guys can give, You all have helped me out a lot since I got my cheapmod months ago. Thanks again!  :beer:

You need to remove the #'s for those menu items to show up.

Was playing XBOX LIVE fine on old Hard Drive.

I have a matrix... in mode 3

Uploaded new Evox and backup of Original XBOX C to my XBOX, locked harddrive... it said it was done.

Loaded a game and hit the eject button, loaded ms BIOS.... light on matrix turned red

Went into XBOX LIVE, now I'm banned??

Tell me what I missed

I know it may sound like a question about XBOX LIVE, but its more a question I'm asking if anybody else have had problems/success with locking the hdd from the new evox.

I think you are missing something.  THe MS bios will not load if your hard drive is not locked.  You will get error 5.  So if the retail bios loaded ok, then it has nothing to do with evox locking the drive.

I removed the # and still I see nothing...so I then removed the words under the # hddlockenable and hddlockdisable and once again I see nothing...

It sounds like you removed the wrong hashes. He ment the ones in the menu. It should look like this.

[Menu]

Section "Root"
{
Item "Launch DVD",ID_Launch_DVD
Item "Trainers",ID_trainer
Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash
Item "Reboot",ID_Quick_Reboot
Item "Power Off",ID_Power_Off
# Item "Flash Evox BIOS","c:biosd6.bin",ID_Flash_Bios_File
Item "Lock Harddisk",@210
Item "Unlock Harddisk",@211
Section "System Utils"
{

I hope this helps you  beerchug.gif

Have you changed back the actions that you changed before? It should look like this.

[Action_10]

LogFile = "f:lock.log"
Info "This function will lock your XBOX Harddisk"
Warning "You will now lock your XBOX harddisk and will be able"
Warning "to boot from an original XBOX bios"
#

hddlockenable

[Action_11]

LogFile = "f:unlock.log"
Info "This function will unlock your XBOX Harddisk"
Warning "You will now unlock your XBOX harddisk and will not be able"
Warning "to boot from an original XBOX bios"

Thank you for clarifying... now I can start looking for other places I went wrong.  ;)

I locked my Seagate 80 GB using "hdlock" with the password (2e1b4e7d60a73bfdca08589601270027a0272f90) I got from the backup routine.

I forgot to rename the MS dashbord properly so the hd refused to boot.
When I tried to unlock the hd using "hdunlock" it displayed "done", but when I used the same password in "hddisable"
it said "device not ready". And the disk is still locked when I check using "atapwd".

The strange thing is that the "hddpwd.txt" file displays a different password (2E1B4E7D60A73BFDCA08589601270027A02720), I've tried this password using both "hdunlock" and "unlockx" without sucess.

Anybody got a solution ?

the reason why "Flash Evox BIOS" isn't showing up in your menu is that there is no
d6.bin in your bios folder (Item "Flash Evox BIOS","c:-bios-d6.bin",ID_Flash_Bios_File)
put - cause the deviders don't show.

there are only these 256k bios with the realese,

EvoX D.6 EjectFix.bin
EvoX D.6.bin
EvoXD.6_MP.bin
tosp D.6.bin

so just change the the bios file name in your evox.ini

also what are the functions of the four inculded bios ?
mainly EvoXD.6_MP.bin

I know that EvoX D.6 EjectFix.bin has the EjectFix
& EvoX D.6.bin doesn't have the EjectFix
& tosp D.6.bin is for flashing your TOSP.

correct me if im wrong.

thanks & hope it helps somewhat.
