XaRaNn: You need to buy BOTH the Monster 400x AND Lightwave 100x to get what you want.

Monster 400x = Component Video & Stereo Audio
Lightwave 100x = Dolby Digital Optical Audio upgrade for 400x

So Component Video w/ Optical Out = Monster 400x + Lightwave 100x

ok whats setting me off is that thing they say in the description of the
Monster XBox GameLink 100 Fiber Optic

Monster’s Fiber Optic Cable, Lightwave 100 X (Sold Separately), completes upgrade to Dolby Digital Surrond Sound.

that makes me thign that thing

could any1 who bought and used these please reply? damn guys i really need your help on this one

You could always read the initial page or two of the thread - someone else asked this exact question and I wrote some very in depth descriptions of the products.  You need only the 100x and 400x.  You will have component video and 5.1 DD audio.  As a matter of fact - this was what got this thread going in the first place.

hey guys I just purchased this tv last night:

http://www.circuitci...13&qp=0&c=1&b=g

Panasonic 32" Stereo TV Brand/Model: PAN CT32E13

It has component input but isn't HDTV, does it matter what I buy for it?  I was looking at the standard MS version here:  http://www.ebgames.c...duct/209496.asp

Is that the right adaptor for my TV for the component?  Thanks smile.gif

That adapter will do you no good.  According to the TV description you have no inputs for hi-def on your TV.  The best that TV can do is svideo.

EDIT: Oh, it does have standard component jacks though.  Weird, I thought they were pretty much exclusive to hi def

Nope, he will still have 480i even with the component inputs that his TV has.

Klatu : Since your set isn't capable of 480p, the MS HD AV pack will be perfect for you and your situation. The MS HD AV pack is the same price as the MS svid av pack so might as well go with the HD AV pack and take advantage of your component inputs for XBOX/DVD playback.

FYI got the monster cables $70.
57" sony TV and bose surround sound. Definetly notice the differance over the MS HDTV cables. Also I have a cat and she likes cables but she won't chew on monster cables becasue she doesn't like the mesh WOOHOO CAT RESISTANT CABLES!!!! Cheers to Monster for keeping my cat alive.

I dont dream m8, i have seen component quality and the difference on my set between component and rgb are worlds apart.

Hercules Man

Can you provide some information on what equipment, cables, and outputs you used to get your RGB setup?

I'm pretty sure he means the RGB Scart leads we have in Europe.
Pictures pretty damn nice, and the picture RGB Scart leads give is pretty good (ALOT better than Composite or S-Video), it doesnt -quite- touch component, but its not far off!

biggrin.gif ), but I'm trying to find out what makes one cable better than another.

I'm not trying to start a MS vs. Monster debate, I just was wondering what are some features that I should be looking for when buying component, VGA, DVI, or breakout cables.

Thanks in advance.

For digital cables (DVI, digital audio etc..) cable quality is far less important - just get the signal there uninterupted.  As far as analog cables, shielding, resistance, the quality and fit of the connections (tight and thick).  There are a ton of other things and to be honest the best place to research or asking is not xbox-scene.  Head to the forums at www.avsforum.com or www.hometheaterspot.com.  Keep in mind this is the holy war of topics.  Some people feel that they can tell minute differences in even the highest quality cabling (like $8500 interconnects - i.e. Transparent Opus).  Also, the quality of the rest of your setup will play a very large part since connecting a perfect cable to an average system will not give you perfect or reference quality sound, you simply won't degrade the crap you pump into the cables any further.  One thing that is imporant to note is that even the most steadfast engineers seem to favor good cables, they just don't believe in going past a certain point (i.e. recording studio reference cables vs. Opus).  There are always the people that hold the opinion that Radio Shack cables are as good as anything out there and everything else is overpriced and over engineered.  Certainly the law of diminishing returns applies up the whole spectrum but I'd advise doing a self evaluation and consider the level of cable quality your setup warrants and you can afford.  Second, audition and try some different cables.  Your ears and your budget will be the determining factor.

Honestly I've read many home theater sites and have come to the same conclusion as many others.  Monster Cables is one of the biggest marketing scams around.  They charge insane prices and offer mediocre products.  The best cables available are custom made.  I myself sell custom raw performance home theater cables at a fraction of the cost.  They're basically just a great RG6 coax coupled with high quality connectors.  Email me or visit my Ebay store for all of my products.

As is stated multiple times in this thread.  A pure custom cable connection is not possible on the Xbox (unless you solder your own connections to the motherboard).  High-end cables (far better cabling than the Monster 400x) have been connected to the MS HD breakout box.  The issue is that that the 400x still outperforms the upgraded cables.  The issue here is that the MS Breakout box is degrading the signal before it can pass it on (weakest link in chain).  So yeah, Monster Cables are overpriced and you can get equivalent cables for less but unless you fabricate your own component outputs on the back of the Xbox they will still not provide the picture the 400x produces (even with perfect cables - shit in = shit out and there is no easy way of getting around the MS breakout box although better cables do improve the picture over stock MS cables on the breakout box).

Now for all other non-Xbox applications the cabling world is wide open.

Interesting comparison between the 2 types of cables, I have a 59 inch widescreen rear projection tv, with rear projection you never get a perfect quality picture only a big one but which of these 2 cables would make a difference with what I have given my lack of picture quality?
I dont know if monster cables are available here in Australia.
