Ok, I havent read through this whole thing because I was too pissed to after reading the first page.  If you are going to spend $3,000-$12,000 for a television, and bitch about the cost of a F*&%iING wire, you should be shot!  I have a $8,000 Mitsubishi 2chip DMD DLP projector, and let me tell you....when you are running ANYTHING less than MONSTER CABLE on your XBOX, it looks like you are playing ATARI.  My viewing size is 102x72, and at that amount of picture you see the diffrence, even at 1080i.  I have spent $2,000 alone on audio cable going to a pair of Vanderstiens that cost more than most of your cars.  So trust me $70, for a pair of audio and video cables is nothing for the diffrence it makes.  Now for most of you that are running between 32 and 61 inches...I can't see why you would NOT choose to spent the extra money after making that kind of purchase?  You don't even deserve to own the telivision as far as I am concerned!!  Get the F*&@ING wire, shut your mouth, and play HALO.

Some day I'll be rich and be able to tell off people who cannot spend loads of money on all the small things.

That is cool that you did that though...I am sure I would love to have your setup.

I have a $17,000 pair of speakers, and a 500.oo dollar car.  Its all about your priorities, I never claimed to be rich.  I just love music and video games.

You want me to believe that someone is going to spend $17,000 on speakers to put into a car that is only worth $500?  You could have said the car is worth maybe $2500 or something a little more believeable.  If you are telling the truth then even the biggest music enthusiest would tell you to replace your POS car first and foremost.

It's okay if you and/or your parents are rich.  I was just saying I wish I was rich so I could do the same thing.

He never said the speakers were 'in' his car.

He's refering to his home audio speakers.  I doubt know of any car audio speakers approaching that price tag anyway.  An automobile is a totally shit environment for music, and this comes from someone who used to have a fairly decent system a few vehicles ago.

I have a question that was sort of answered earlier.
I have a tv with 480i component inputs as well as s-video.  It is not an hdtv.
Can I use the 400x pack at 480i?
Thanks.

Yes.  biggrin.gif

You've spent $2000 on cables to your Vandersteen? Sorry, I found that a little entertaining. If you want to squeeze max out of your HDTV, you're going to want to have it professionally calibrated. You'll also if you're worried about spending the extra for monster cable(Any high end audio person will know MONSTER IS SHIT.) buy a calibration DVD instead, you'll pull A LOT more quality having your TV properly configured.

Bit off topic because what Vandersteens are you running and what is powering them? I personally never liked the sound, their 2Wq I kind of enjoyed, but for some reason I've always loved the Adire Rava's for price/performance, especially for music.

I guess it really doesn't matter anymore, if you like your Video get a Avia DVD and have your TV professionally calibrated. It's like a whole new TV.

i just bought an MS High def av pack so i can watch progressive scan xbox games on my hitachi HD plasma screen .. i cant access the High Definiton option set up on my MS Dash..please help..

It's in the video section.  If you aren't seeing it try removing and reinserting the adapter (it only appears when an HD capable output is connected).  If this fails there are two possibilities.  The HD pack is defective (happens from time to time just swap it out) or maybe you have the advanced pack and not the HD pack (sounds like you know what you are talking about but stranger things have happened).

Hey all,

I'm sure this has probably been asked a million times, but I'm just curious... is it really worth blowing the 20 bucks to get the MS HD cables?  I've obviously got a HDTV, but I want to know it's actually going to do something first.  I've always been kinda biased against Monster anything because of the through-the-roof prices.  Thanks for any input.

Does a gold plated s-video cable have a noticably better picture than just a regular s-video picture for the x-box.  I am debating on whether or not to spend the extra money.  Thanks for any help!

"Noticable" depends on two things: 1) You and 2) Your setup (i.e. display etc..)

Unless you have a fairly good monitor (HDTV - in which case you should be using component cables) or a large screen I wouldn't bother unless the price differential was minimal.

shrinkydinx - you're replying to a post made July 7th.

Also, the whole cable argument is against the high end cables.  Don't even tell us that the couple strands of copper in tiny guage cable have no properties different from a solid set of 12 guage cables - you will find very measurable differences over anything resembling a standard run.  Video is also more sensitive than audio but the whole objectivist/subjectivist high-end cable debate assumes at least reasonable cable quality for the baseline - generally 12 guage for audio.  Now if we look at the original MSFT component video cables (the ones that came with the breakout box) - they fall pretty far below the baseline for even what most engineers would term a reasonable standard cable, in addition the breakout box itself was fairly chintz (pass a signal through enough crap and it will degrade).  Personally, the best Xbox cables are no more than decent - none are considered high-end and none are priced at a premium to basic quality runs from Rat Shack.  It's simply that the old MSFT offering was so far below baseline for the 'no difference' argument that it is fairly plausible that there may be a noticable difference.  The objectivist argument only holds when you aren't using junk or equipment unsuited to the task of passing a high quality signal.

could someone tell me if im correct in Saying the following...

while the monster cables are great... isnt the MS cables just as good....or even better considering they have Digital Audio plugs?
The 'HD' pack includes component video cables Plug they have the option to use Digital Audio as well. As far as getting the best picture i think they are both almost the same on a tv less then 36 inches big.... the big draw back to BOTH cables is that the xbox limits playback for DVDS but.... both cables will allow you to get higher quality if you were to use say.. XBMC or avalaunchs new dashboard dvd player?.. am i right?

so basically
The difference between using the monster cable and the HD pack is that with the MS HD pack you get the option to use Optical Digital Audio which will allow you to play in DD 5.1 and DTS. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the monster cables do not have this capability.

well i went ahead and bought the new mshd pack with an optical audio cable, and I have to say i am impressed. The sound off of the optical audio blows away the little two channel rca plugs, the component cables are higher quality than the last one. I have amped 2 but my mitsi 73" dont support 720p. Is this game full 1080i or what cuz now i hav jus been playin with high res(480p) halo 2 looks great in 480p mode!

Sweet tv (Diamond with 9" guns) but unfortunately Mits won't accept a 720p signal over the component inputs.  Very very few Xbox games can do 1080i (like 5).  Xbox isn't an HD console.  It manages some 720p occasionally and a very rare 1080i but it is underpowered for the most part.  The next generation of consoles will plug this gap and be able to output 720p and 1080i for every game.  All that said, take a look at the list of HD games and other than Amped 2 you aren't missing much if anything.
