[Network]

SetupNetwork = Yes
StaticIP = yes
Ip = 192.168.0.2
Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway = 0.0.0.0
DNS1 = 0.0.0.0
DNS2 = 0.0.0.0

Looks good to me.

Heres what I have done-I have edited the .ini file turned on static ip,turned on setup network but when I burn it to dvd-r and it loads on the tv it always says 0.0.0.0 for the ip and the setup network and static ip are always set to no. This is the third dvd-r Ive made and they come out the same way.

Something crazy is going on there.  Are you sure that you are adding the correctly edited ini file to your DVD compilation.  I am thinking that you are editing one copy of the ini file and burning another.

If that is not it, is it possible that you are not booting off of the DVD, that you are booting off of the HDD?  Do you have EvoX on your HDD?  It would make sense that if you think you are booting a correctly burned DVD with the properly edited ini file and the drive is not reading the disk and you have EvoX on your hard drive with the incorrect settings and it is booting to your HDD that would explain it.

Other than that, I am out of ideas.

Can you ping 192.168.0.2 once you boot your xbox with your evox disc?

the light on my laptop comes on when I plug the cable from my comp to it.

When you connect the crossover cable directly from the XBOX to your laptop do you get a link light on both NIC's?

QUOTE
But I can ping the laptop but cannot ping the xbox.

If you have a link (if you don't stop and figure out why), and you cannot ping the XBOX that either means one of 2 things, either a bad NIC on the XBOX, or a configuration problem on the XBOX.   We already know that your PC is OK.

I am still thinking that there is some sort of extra terrestrial involvement with your burning procedure.  If you enable StaticIP = yes on the DVD, then boot from the DVD and it is reset to no there is something out of the ordinary going on there.

yea thats the first thing you should figure out.  when you boot evox off the dvd the settings there should match what you had on your evox.ini.  if that isn't happening then... well that's a problem which i can't fix.

I can't say that I have ever seen a link light at only one end of a connection, and I have seen a whole lotta link lights  blink.gif .

That is as far as I have read and it says bad cable to me.

Did you make your crossover or did you buy it (not that pre-built cables can't be defective).

I have seen some very smart guys make a complete ass out of themselves trying to make patch cables properly, it is like an art form, something that you only get better at with time and pravtice.

I went out and bought a new one.  Its a Belkin and it says they are all pre tested before they ship them.  I actually didnt realize that you could actually make them yourself until after I had bought one.  Good thing though, since I always seem to take the hardest route-I probably would have tried to make one.  Heh, heh  Didnt get to work on the problem today but tomorrow Im gonna get the newest Evox and burn a new dvd.  Ill let you guys know how it goes.
