If you are buring an iso you deffinently shouldn't extract it first.

what i'm asking is should i burn a data disc with the extracted iso? or should i burn an image with the iso.

and do you have any idea how i could check my drive speed? i'm almost positive that i've burned at a lower speed than 4x before.

I'm pretty sure that nero has something called simulate burn that does a test burn and tells you how fast you can burn on that disk.
