Boot Disc Trouble Help
« on: August 09, 2003, 02:30:00 PM »

i have evox v1.8.2812 on a dvd-r. it is set to the default .ini file. so there is no static ip. my pc network is setup as follows. cable modem into my hub. cable into my pc from hub, and cable from my hub to my xbox. well here is my problem. i cannot seem to get my xbox to pick up an ip address. my evox on the dvd-r will only boot once and a while (which is strange because all my backups work fine) and when it does the ip remains blank on the settings menu. i can't connect to my xbox!

i did have my evox as my dash, but for some reason i could not go to the msdash or load dvd movies so i put my msdash back on. but i need to do something that requires my evox dash and need help getting this to work!

please help. thanks in advance.

you most likely could not get to the MS dash because your HD is not locked, or you replaced the xboxdash.xbe instead of adding a evoxdash.xbe.

YOu will need to post the ini if you want some help.

now when you posted that i couldn't get to my ms dash because my hd is not locked, you are probably right. i often swap out eeprom's with configmagic and may have left my hd open.

in the meantime i went and burned a evox cd-rw. i haven't been able to get that to boot either. is it my burning options?
data disc, DAO, UDF - up to 128 filename length, any char., plus 8+3 tree (Bridge)
it's been a while since i burned a cdrw for my xbox and wasn't sure if this was correct.

also, when i am able again to ftp to my box...should i go ahead and put evoX back on? or should i try like MediaXMenu or neXgen?

thanks again.

Did you make sure that your files are in the xbox iso format?

Ya I think that you should put a new dash on your xbox
if youve got a new HD.

Evox or MxM, I wouldn't go with nexgen.

The old Xiso's are know to be very buggy, but I think that you will be safe with the newest version.

I use nero.Close out the wizard.GO down to burn image, select the evox iso.I think I usually do DAO and finallize cd.
Don't really remember, but I think that that should work just fine.

i went and made an .iso image with XIso. included a 200mb '0dummy' file. it's on a memorex cd-rw, which has booted for me before. right now it's making no attempt to boot though.  sad.gif  oh, and i burned at 4x.

also, like i posted earlier, i have evoX on a dvd-r which boots occasionally as well. however, it only displays an ip address maybe 1 out of 20 boots. any ideas?

should i use a different iso program to create the iso? burning methods in nero? please help.

thanks again.

when i'm loading a cdrw or dvdr i always listen to my drive. it always makes like a first 'scan', and then a second 'scan'. usually after the second scan you can hear it finding the default.xbe file and booting. when i load my dvdr it will do this occasionally. it will find the default.xbe after the second scan. with my cdrw's and when my dvdr doesn't boot it will do the two scans and then go to the 'this is not a xbox game/dvd/ect'.

is this normal? i just seem to always have trouble getting cdrw's to work. usually they will boot 1 out of 10. in maybe 30 or so tries i haven't gotten the cdrw to boot.

and still, any idea why when i boot to my evox dvdr why in the settings the line type will be blank and there is no ip? i know it's reading it because if i unplug the cable from my hub it will say no link. any ideas?
