Anyone Here Willing To Switch?
« Reply #15 on: August 03, 2003, 08:00:00 PM »

I just switched to MxM and can't believe i ever lived with EvoX.
MxM is so much more versitle and i love the animated menus, not always have the same menu in the center of the screen, preview videos for all of my games and apps.

Also you dont need to make 65 XML files or XML file at all if you dont want to, if you just start up MxM it will autoconfig everthing and make a XML file its self. Then if you want you can edit it to you tastes or leave it alone.

But the FACT is:
EvoX<Avaluanch<<<MxM

i think it would be really sweet if Slayer came out with version 2.2 , that included both EVO X and MXM  with a choice of installing either or, , or both

Well, I have looked over the documentation that comes with it.  It does not look difficuly, however it does look like a pain in the ass.  For example:

QUOTE
The Right Way

1.   Follow the above directions, first off….
2.   Edit the MXM.xml file to suit your personal tastes. A reference follows at the end of the user’s guide.
3.   Create an MXM_Entry.xml file for each game and place that in the same directory as the game. The description for creating an MXM_Entry.xml file is later in the guide.

I have 65 games on my XBOX HDD, so I would have to do this 65 times ... I don't think so.

The manual also says things like:

•   FTP Server
Well, starting with 0.9i, I am including an FTP server. Does it work? I don’t know

I don't know.  After about 30 minutes or so of research, I say the cons outweigh the pro's.

If I want to copy files to my hard drive I have to load Evox since the FTP server doesn't work.  If I want to flash my bios I have to load Evox since there is no flash feature.

Looks like I will just stick with Evox and not waste any more of my time.

The documentation you read needs updated a bit (more like alot), especially about the FTP. What you read was for veri I. The current release is N, you do the math on how many letters have passed by. The FTP is completely refined and in perfect working order. It's not only fully functional, but I have found it to be faster then Evox.  When you talk about your 65 xbox games and manually inserting them, that is also no longer a problem. With the Auto-menu he has implemented, it will automatically link all your games, apps and emulators creating the xml for you. By doing this it also allows you to easily dress up the entries later on when you learn a bit more. The features just keep on coming and the support is unmatched. BenJeremy is always on the board and is open to new all new ideas. Bugfixes come within hours (unlike months with Evox) and questions are answered in minutes. I don't even have to comment on looks and design, MXM blows away anything GUI oriented on the Xbox. The skinning options are endless and soon to be limitless. Take a look at my current skins in my signature to get an idea. Why be bound to the static backgrounds of Evox when you can have full motion video playing in the back of your skins. To the person with the Matrix Architect pic in his sig, you may want to take a look Here . Thats is just a sample of what MXM can do. No one is coming over her begging or making you switch. People are just happy with MXM and want others to get a taste of what we have (A flat out better dash). I mean atleast download it and run it as a app under Evox to see if you like it. My .85 cents  tongue.gif

That's the "Right Way" - but you seemed to have left out "The Easy Way" which amounts to doing nothing but running MXM. Of course there's work involved if you want to fine tune things, but it's pretty easy with MXM. You don't need entries for each app, with auto-config menus you might only use entry files if you wanted to password protect a particular app, like FlashX, or BMX XXX.

Of course, if you magically expect MXM to spontaneously create video previews for you, well obviously no program can do that, but I make it as easy as possible to add them in; simply drop the video into the game directory with a specific name (MXM users have thoughtfully provided videos for just about any program that can run on the Xbox, and then some). IF you are too lazy to do that, MXM will still pick up on the thumbnails that most games already place on the system.

Thee's a balance between ease-of-use and power that MXM does handle nicely, and like Avalaunch, there is no set up actually required to run it. This only comes into play when you want to push MXM and do new things.

I am currently working on a new system UI that will provide full dialogs (done right, no less), giving users complete control for their configuration within MXM. All values will be enterable using the gamepad, IR Remote, keyboard, virtual keyboard, and/or mouse. Diagnostics and safe mode will help you get set up faster than ever.

Um, yeah, 0.9i.... MXM is at version 0.9n and the FTP server works flawlessly now, and is better than Evo-X. Saying it doesn't work is a flat out lie.

Can you use PASV with Evo-X? Nope. You can with MXM. Transfers are faster, works with apps like XBRenamer and xISO xFER. You can (and people do) use FlashFXP to transfer directly between Xboxes with a PC controlling the transaction.

I agree... Most of the step by steps are not fully documented yet in one single place as BJ is always coming out with new features. But here is a good place to start:

I understand what you mean by saying MxM looks complicated but its really not to bad after you use it for like a week, Not to mention everyone on the MXM forum is very willing to help you convert to MXM.

So just try MXM, and i bet you wont go back.

I am sitting here wondering where the hell I got that old version from.  I download it all from the usual place, fairly recently I thought but then again I am just as brain damaged as the next guy  blink.gif  so I took another look and got this file mxm_beta_0_9n4_bin.rar.  Is that the latest and greatest.  If so I will give it another look.  I am glad that I didn't go through the toruble of installing it.

I must say that I've been seriously considering making the switch.  I've just been fine with Evox.  It does everything I need it to do with no problems at all but being the consummate nerd (bigger, better, faster) I've been compelled to try MxM just because it seems to be what all the "serious" Xbox modders are using.

MxM : Evolution X :: Linux : Windows

It seems like everyone will have to make the switch to MxM eventually.  I mean, has anyone been to The Evolution X Website lately?  It's like a ghost town!  It seems pretty obvious that eventually there will be just no more support or upgrades for Evox.  Evox is a great system but it's getting dated fast!

I, for one, am going to give MxM a try!
