If your using a static ip then it will never change.  If your using a router w/dhcp see if it supports reservations.  Linksys does.  You can reserve an ipaddress by mapping its mac address.

You should be able to connect to your router with your web browser and see what ip's it has assigned, assuming you don't have a pile computers on your network you may be able to figure it out.

go to your linksys from the web page.  on the dhcp tab there is a show active clients or active connections box.  hit that.  note what is there.
then boot your xbox and do same thing again.  see what one was just added and there you go.

Well if you are plugging a cross-over cable from you xbox into you router that would be the problem, use a straight through if you are going through a router, you only need the crossover if you are going right into a network card on your pc.

this is correct and just to add, if your crossover is going to your pc nic then nothing will show up in the linksys either.  at that point your xbox would need a static ip you assign to it anyway and so then you'd know the ip.

Do you have port 21 open on your router, that's a funny message, never seen that one by an xbox before.

can you please define your router's ip and subnet, dhcp range, pc ip, and evox network settings with ip and subnet.
