Okay first what program are you using to FTP. And Can you Boot Up EvoX from the CD? We'll go from here....

Just use a crossover cable (direct connection must use a crossover cable, NOT a standard cat5) and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE STATIC IP SET TO YES! Otherwise it will look for a DHCP server to assign it an IP address rather then use the static one you specified. In otherwords your XBOX is not running ANY ip address unless you FORCE it to use a static one or you have something assign it one. I see this as being one of the number one problems people have when they try networking their pc's and xbox's

Not to nitpick, but I just want to make sure nobody is confused. CAT5 cable is the actual cable itself. So both a straight cable and a crossover cable can be CAT5. It's how the ends are fitted that determines this. If you know how to crimp the RJ45 ends onto CAT5, then you already know how to make a crossover. If you're buying the cable, it will be clearly marked as being crossover.

Thanks for the correction XEERO. I just wanted to make sure that people do understand that they must use a crossover if they plan to network without a router.

Hmm, when you go into the settings screen does it show the PCS IP address in blue? Or does it just show 0.0.0.0.0?

If it just shows all zeros.........hmm.....Windows XP does have a built in firewall. Try disabling that and ANY firewall software you might have enabled. (most anti virus software comes with personal firewall protection) and disable zonealarm if you have it.

When you enable the static Ip are you enabling that by going under settings? Or are you adjusting it in the settings menu? Cuz from my experience it will only work if you burn a new cd with the Use Static IP set to YES in the INI file.

Here are my PC NIC settings:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (even tried with this blank)

Try using 192.168.0.1 for your nic card and 192.168.0.3 for the Xbox IP. Where I substituted a 0 for a 1. This is what I believe I am using for an IP.

Let us know if this works for you.

Tried it but it did not work.

XBox:

SetupNetwork   = Yes
StaticIP   = Yes
Ip      = 192.168.0.3
Subnetmask   = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway   = 192.168.0.1

PC:

Ip =192.168.0.1
Subnetmask   = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway   = 192.168.0.1

I have a Linksys router and I tried both with the router having an IP of 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. Neither one worked and the XBox was plugged into the router and both NIC lights were on.

and are you using DHCP(if so definately uncheck static if checked)
and is DNS(make sure to fill those in on the INI

Ok, plugged the XBox back into the router using a regular patch cable. I set the ip to 192.168.0.103 and set Static Ip to No. On reboot, my xbox displays an IP of 0.0.0.0. If I check the Static, it will display 192.168.0.103, but I can not FTP to it. I have always left the 2 DNS fields as 0.0.0.0. Should they be filled in?

mine is filled in (i typed winipcfg in windows 98 to find them)
and just filled the numbers in in the INI and that fixed it for me
