How Do I Copy A Game Onto My Hard Drive ?
« on: July 19, 2003, 07:01:00 AM »

I've just looked at my xbox drive and I already have a games folder with a game on (must of been done by previous owner) All I really need to know is how do i get my original game onto my pc so that I can ftp it to my xbox (games folder)

Or

Would I be better using dvd2xbox program or px hdloader ? I have both in zip form. To use them do i burn them to a cd ? Do i use the progams on my pc or xbox ?

Sorry for all the qusetions.

I use a program called xcommander. It works well on backing up games. I suggest you find it somewhere, ftp it over to your xbox, configure your evox.ini, and your all set.

Yeah, or you might just as well use dvd2xbox or HDD loader if you already have them. They should be put on your xbox hd and launched from there. See if you have a folder named Applications or Apps and put them in there, and make shure that evox.ini is configured to autoadd items from the Applications-folder!

Your evox.ini should contain:
CODE

Section "XBOX Games"
{
   AutoAddItem "f:\games"
   SortAll
}

This will automatically add any games that are in your games folder

to setup dvd2xbox (if it is not on your xbox already), you need to unzip it, send all the files to your harddrive (preferably in F:/apps or E:/apps) in their own subfolder (ie F:/apps/dvd2xbox). Once you have this set up, your evox.ini should contain this

CODE

Section "XBOX Games"
{
   AutoAddItem "f:\apps"
   Item "DVD2XBOX", "f:\apps\dvd2xbox\default.xbe"
   SortAll
}

Your paths in evox.ini should match how your harddrive is setup, but basically the "Item" command is to manually add an item and the "autoadditem" command is to add all "default.xbe"s that are in that base folder

next, start up your xbox, put a game in, go to DVD2XBOX and launch it, then follow the instructions on screen, basically just pressing start a few times, then when it is done, go back to your dash and the games will be in there

hope this is step by step enough for you

You don't need to do anything.  Just put the program (px-HDDloader, for example) into it's own folder in the "apps" folder of the F: drive.  Then when you reboot Evox it will show up under the Apps menu.

When you use px-HDDloader it will create a folder named: F:HDDLOADERNEWGAME0

You can either move that folder to your games folder (via FTP) or simply load up HDDLoader to access the games.

one more thing. I have a backup that won't run on my xbox (wrong media, bios not compatible, maybe it doesn't like my xecuter lite chip)) i'm not sure. Is there a program that will patch the game to run when i put it onto my harddrive ? I've tried dvd2xbox and it doesn't load.

dvd2xbox lets you choose the dump directory. I think there is no way in hddloader.

Which game doesn't load ? dvd2xbox patches the mediatype and the newer media checks.
The only problem could be games with filenames longer than fatx allows (>42 letters)
