Cute Ftp To Xbox
« on: June 27, 2003, 11:28:00 AM »

Hi guys,
I am trying to FTP to my XBox from my PC. I know my network is setup properly because thats what I do. This is more of a software question. I am using Cute FTP.

When I log into my xbox via FTP my username and password go in fine and it says im logged on.
Heres where in stuck. There is nothing appearing on the right hand side wher the Xbox file system should be showing up.
Should I be using somthing other than Cute FTP? (I read somwhere that it should work).
I just thought of somthing.....what about in passive mode? Would that help at all?

Any help is appreciated.

Well, I tried ftping using my browser and It worked fine. I can see all my drives.

I downloaded FlashFXP and installed. I then connected fine to Xbox and can see my drives. C,D,E,F,X,Y,Z.
Whenever I try and copy a file to my F: i get the following info.

Browser:
"An error occurred while trying to copy a file to the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to put this file on the server.
Details:
200 Type set to IMAGE
200 Port command ok.
426 Connection closed, file openeing failed.

FlashFXP:
List Complete: 56 bytes in 0.05 (0.05 Kbps)
Transfer queue completed

1 File failed to transfer

Both of these errors were after is was logged in and authenticated through ftp.

F: has room on it right?

and you could get cuteftp working if you said the default dir that you log in to is /C or just pick one.

Yes, Passive mode is set to off.

F: has 1.98Gb free

This is a retail HDD. Seagate 10 GB.

I have formatted F: and there is 1 folder in it but i cant rememebr the name of it.

check to make sure the file name is < 42 characters in length.  If it is longer make it less somehow.  FATX only supports 42 max characters per filename.

This should solver your problem.

PS- I prefer using cuteftp to transfer... use it if thats what you are comfortable with (just find where the option is to use PORT and activate it.... its somewhere in site properties...)

I use ws_ftp too.  I started with flashfxp but it isn't a "polished" ftp program and I ran into a couple bugs with multiple transfers.  Then switch to cuteftp but ended up with ws_ftp cause is very stable, fast, and has an interface i like.

Javienn, paulmitch,
That sounds like a really good idea.
I do believe the file i was trying to transfer had a very long name (mp3).
Im going to try that and get back to you.

Guys,
Thats what the problem was.
The file i was trying to copy had a name that was too long for the file ststem to regcognize. In turn, it looked like a permissions issue.

Thanks for the help!
