What do you have as the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway for your PC NIC?

And what is the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway for your Xbox right now (updated)?

My NIC is,  IP:                  192.168.1.100
                Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
                Gateway:        192.168.1.1

XBox

IP:                  192.168.0.2

Try making both the Default Gateways the same.

right, (using Xp) i have gone to control panel, network internet connections, clicked on network connections, then on the local network icon. clicked on proterties, then on internet protocol (TCP/IP) proterties, and entered the ip address etc, in there. is that the right way to change the ip address ect??????

If so, i have entered the ip address as, 192.168.0.3.
the subnet as 255.255.255.0
and the gateway wont let me but 0 in, so i put all 1's

On the xbox settings everything should be the same apart from the Ip address, which ill put it as, 192.168.0.4.
Is that correct??? Sorry for being thick, but im new to all this networking stuff!

Good so far.  Now lets check your settings and verify a connection.

On pc do the following.
Start->Run->Type "cmd" press enter
Now you should have a command prompt.
Type "ipconfig" press enter
This will display your ip setting, verify them.
Now type "ping 192.168.0.4" and press enter.
You should get some replies from the xbox.

Let me know how this comes out.

Do you have 2 ethernet cards or a hub/switch?  How did you connect your pc to the xbox?

Ha, sorted it mate. Set the setup network to YES, and Use static IP: NO. saved the settings rebotted. And the xbox gave itself an ip address 192.168.1.101. Put this into the ip address in FlashFXP and it worked. Thanks For your help!

Ok, I feel really bad writing this but I've done all the searching and stuff and it ain't connecting.  So, humbly, I ask for help!

All linked thru Linksys 5 way hub/switch with standard leads between each (the xover cable wouldn't even give a connection to and from the Xbox)

PC1 (The ICS PC, on XP - Shared USB Modem)

Manually Set TCP/IP to 192.168.1.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0

PC2 (Slave PC, on XP)

Manually Set TCP/IP to 192.168.1.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0

XBox Evox settings

IP 0.0.0.0
Line Status: 100/Full Duplex
Ethernet MAC Adaptor: 00:50:F2:5B:D4:97
Setup Network: Yes
Static IP: No (I have tried changing this to yes but on reboot it's back to no)
IP: 192.168.1.3 (I realise most would have 192.168.0.3 but my network was set up as 192.168.1.* so I kept to that)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS 0.0.0.0
DNS 0.0.0.0
etc...

First - am I doing something dumb I have totally missed?
Second - Norton firewall was originally a problem when setting up the XP network so could it be adding to this?
Last - Er, help!

Sorry for the long post but it's better to give as much info straight off I find.  Anyhow, hope you can help coz it's driving me nuts....

try going into the ethernet properties, control panel, internet and network, and then loacl network, and then click on proterties. and set it up as obtain IP address automatically. The rouer will sort all the ip address out for you. The go into ure XBOX settings and set, setup network to YES, and use static IP to NO, go to save and exit. Turn off the xbox, start it up again, and look at what the new xbox ip address is, change it to this in your FTP program you are using, and it should work for ya!!!!

cheers fella!  one thing tho - it's a switch/hub not a router so does it have any say in the dynamic addressing?

Ok, time to 'fess to my stupidity.  I thought that the changes made to the ini in Evox when running on the box would save to the hdd - kinda like a game save.  er, no.  So now I have reburnt the disc WITH a static IP enablesd it's all fine and sweet!

So now thats done and I thank those who assisted for their help, I'm off to beat myself with a big stick marked "Dumbass".

Cheers!

QUOTE (puckdis @ Jun 24 2003, 06:16 AM)
Anyone have suggestions on solving this transfer problem?  So far I've been trying to transfer Halo for a day and half not and still have 3 hours of in the queue.

Have you tried connecting them with a crossover cable to see how fast that goes?

Have you tried disconnecting from the internet whilst doing the transfer?

What about if you set up a static IP?

What about if you tweak the duplex and speed settings? If your PC network card lets you specify the speed, do that rather than letting it autodetect the settings.

192.168.0.x is never on the internet, so I don't think Windows will try to use your internet connection to send data there, and I don't think the router will either. But whilst I am no networking expert you should try to narrow down the problem using the suggestions given above.

I guess you must be short of money if you are willing to spend 1.5 days to save spending 40 quid on what is one of the few games I've played on the Xbox that's actually worth what you fork out for it. So don't fret if you don't have a crossover cable already... they are very cheap smile.gif

http://www.nthelp.com/40/ip.htm lists reserved IP addresses.

Okay, yet another networking question.  Before I start, I am pretty knowlegable about networks.  My home setup is this:

Linksys Wireless router connected to ISP.  It has DHCP and assigns ip's to my 3 computers.  They all have net access.

I connected the xbox to a port in the hub, and evox (running from cd) detects a connection immediately.  This is what the screen says:

Type:            DHCP
IP:                192.168.1.103
Line Status: 100/Full duplex
*******
Setup Network:yes
Static ip:No
ip:192.168.0.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway:192.168.0.1

am I right to assume that this indicates that the xbox already has an IP?  these are default settings on the ini file burned to the cd so I haven't changed anything and it shows an ip.

My problem is I can't ping from my desktop.  My desktop has the ip 192.168.1.100.

What am I doing wrong?  should I try forcing that ip in static mode and using the routers ip address as the gateway??

Thanks in advance.
