I am pretty sure that I shouldn't be giving out this link, but you could try www.doom9.net.  There you can find utilites to rip DVDs and then change them into AVI, MPEG or into VCD.

I usually will rip the VOB files and such from the DVD onto my computer and then use the DVD2AVI program to decode them as AVIs.  This process, however, may take HOURS depending on your system.  Why do it that way when you could download them from online with much less work and hassle?

How does the quality look after this process? Also how fast is your system when you say it could take hours?

QUOTE (ronaldi @ Jun 9 2003, 04:22 AM)
i know it is possible to copy DVD movies to my HDD, but is there any way in which to watch them? some movies i get some playback in xbmp but its all crappy lookin etc...

is there any divx converting programs availble for use on an xbox????

They will only look crappy if you downgraded the real dvd (mpeg 2) to something like avi or vcd.  If you copy the whole dvd to your hard drive it will be the exact same quality using xbmp.  I have done this myself and it works fine.

I have found that xbox media player is a very good app.  It has alot of good features.  Make sure you are using 2.3 or 2.4 if you can.

so if you covert a vob file to a mpeg 2 then the quality should look almost like the original?

yea, it'll look pretty darn close.

When you compess the vob's to avi, you can select how good of a quality and other things.

Good luck.
