Please help with this problem. I suspect the answer is very simple.

Before, I was running evox off a cd-rw. It was was an old version, but it did FTP just fine. (BTW: I cant look at the ini file because I only have the iso file of it on the cd. I dont have the original files that made the iso)

I just installed a newer version evox on my xbox hdd. But now it wont work with my FTP. It will not find the IP automatically. The settings in the ini file are the standard normal one. I have not changed anything at all. When I boot again off my old cd-rw of evox, it works fine. It just doesnt seem to work off the HDD.

My firewall is off. I am connecting to my PC directly via crossover cable and WS_FTP.

These are my ini file settings, for the record:

StaticIP      = No
Ip      = 192.168.0.3
Subnetmask   = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway   = 192.168.0.1

Any ideas?

just tried it and it doesnt work. even after i changed my PC's network settings so that it looked for the IP 192.168.0.3 it still didnt work.

i think i need to have static IP = off. I need my PCs network settings to be 'find IP automatically' in order to connect to my ISP. So I want my xbox setting to be the same.

Like I said, it works fine on my old evox that I boot from cd-rw, but I have 3 newer versions of evox and none of them work when put on the HDD with default settings.

Someone please help, this is really weird...

if you have staticip off then it will attempt to get an ip address automatically. You do not want this.

Set it to Static Ip = ON and assign an ip address to it or make a note of the ip address

On your network card if it is the only one in your pc then you will have to manually configure it every time you want to ftp to your xbox.

Your best bet would be to buy a 2nd Network card for your pc and set that up with a static ip address to use for ftping to your xbox.

No. Thanks, but you are not listening.

Its much easier for me to have an IP assigned automatically because its easier to change 6 digits of the IP address in WS_FTP than it is to change my PCs network settings (which requires a reboot) everytime I switch between the internet and my xbox. Further I cannot get a 2nd network card because I dont have a free slot in my laptop.

I want a non-static IP - how do I set this up?

Like I say, my cd-rw evox file works fine, but i cant get into the ini file to find out the settings.

Insert evox on cd leave in xbox while u ftp to it look on drive d and u will see your ini u was using on the cd

What do i do with this code?

(by the way, i havent selected 'flash bios' yet from the evox menu. I am scared about ruined my xbox live account. Do I need to flash the bios for any reason? I currently have the xecutor X2 4976.02 bios on there.)

the cd is probably using a static ip. when you try to connect to your xbox what is your setup like, you never said....
are you using crossover cable? is your xbox going to a router that can give it an address?? what?

direct via crossover cable from my laptop. i have a network card and it connects to the internet by getting an automatic IP address. I dont want to change that setting.

what else do you need to know and i'll answer straight away.

If you want your xbox to get an ip address automatically then you will have to get your network card to assign it one.

and anyway, why would my network card be doing that automatically for the evox that runs of the cd-rw, and not for the newer version that runs off the xbox hdd???

i have tried this both with static IP on and off, and I cant get it to work. the only possible way is to use my cd-rw with the really old version of evox ono it. its really weird and annoying.

Ok with a crossover cable you'll need to set the xbox static=yes then say give it a ip of 192.168.0.3
your computers ip needs to be in this same subnet so hopefully your computers ip is 192.168.0.x
If your computers ip is not this, temporarily set it to 192.168.0.4 or something.

I already tried that and it didnt work.

Anyway, I dont want to use a static IP.

The only way I have ever got it to connect my PC and XBOX is when I use the cd-rw with the ancient version of evox on it. In that case, it finds the IP automatically and I type it into my FTP client each time I connect.

I just want to get it to work when booting evox from the HDD.

Someone must know something, this is crazy.

i downloaded a readymade iso file.

if you read the earlier posts, you will see that i managed to get into it and read the menu.ini file. but it didnt make sense to me.

Some facts to recap:
1 - I do not want a static IP. I cant get a static IP to work anyhow.
2 - My PCs NIC is set to find IP automatically.
3 - I am connecting with a crossover cable direct PC - XBOX (no hub, router etc).
4 - It works fine when I boot from my cd-rw which has evox1.8.458 on it.

I am wondering if 'items.txt' or 'settings_adoc.xip' is causing the problem? I think this because when I updated XBMP from 2.3 to 2.4, it wont find the new version. I originally renamed 2.3 from 'xbmp' to 'xbmp_old' and then uploaded made 2.4 as'xbmp'. but it continues to load the old version anyway. This is a seperate problem, but perhaps related?
