I Dont Have A C Drive...
« on: May 29, 2003, 12:35:00 PM »

Ok when i first installed my modchip i made a backup of my c drive but i dident do it allthe way apparently, i also reformated my hard drive and installed evolutionx so when ever my chip is turned on the xbox boots to evolution x and when ever my chip is off it boots to and errer code because there is nothing on the drive.  Well luckily for me my cousin is comming over this weekend and he is bringing his unmodded xbox, could i take his hard drive out and put it in my xbox and use flashfxp to copy his hard drive to my computer the put his harddrive back in his xbox and put mine back into my xbox and overwrite my intire c drive with his then use the slayers sutoinstall disk to install evolutionx so that when i turn the chip on the xbox boots to evox and when the chip is off it boots to the normal ms dashbaord that came from my cousin's c drive.  would this work?

try it out, just one thing you need is evolutionx on cdrw cuz there won't be an evolutionx dashboard on the other hdd, this way your xbox will be assigned the ip in evox.ini from the cdrw from there, you should be able to connect via ftp without a problem and copy over the content you want

You can't just take out your friend's HD from an unmodded Xbox and put it in yours and expect it to work. His HD is locked and won't work in yours. ALTHOUGH, you can boot Configmagic with the HD installed and unlock the HD

But seriously, your best bid is to find a virgin C from the usual places and work with that rather possibly messing up your friend's HD

Because his HD from his unmodded Xbox is locked with the HD key from his Xbox, making it impossible to use his HD in your Xbox (unless you unlock it)

Just curious, but doesn't the modchip prevent the XBOX from going through the unlock routine?  Otherwise how would it be possible to install off the self HD's in your xbox and never lock them?

Basically, what you originally suggested should work.  Take your cousins HD out, put it in your XBOX, copy his C drive, put your drive back in and copy the files onto it.  That sould give you all the original XBOX dash files so you can boot the original dash.  There shouldn't be any need to unlock or lock either of the drives.  However if that doesn't work, then you would have only wasted 10~15 minutes of your life, and you can try the method shanafan suggested.

However, If you do use the unlock/lock method be extra carefull that you don't end up screwing up both HD's by locking them with the wrong key.

Wait a minute on that..  Did you install a NEW HD in your xbox before you formatted or is it the one that came with the XBOX?

That is why jogo method's of using a HD from an unmodded Xbox is a bad idea. Once he unlocks the other HD, he HAS TO LOCK WITH THE CORRECT KEY FROM THE UNMODDED XBOX. If he doesn't lock it properly, his friend is somewhat screwed!
