F Drive Zero (!) Mb
« on: May 27, 2003, 02:09:00 PM »

:(   Man, this drives me crazy!

I have just bought a new Samsung 120gb harddisk. There were no problems when inserting the disk into the xbox....  I've booted from the Slayer Install disk (burned it on a DVD-R)....   It was real simple, format, prepare, etc....

But now it seems that my F partition is empty, with a storage capability of zero mb! None of the applications or maps that should be installed on F are there?!

It seems like an ordinary retail-harddisk, but with the extra F-partition (that can't be used).....   What wrong? I've tried anything to undo it: even tried to format everything. But trying to do so, I get the message that there's a write error on partition F.

So, what could have gone wrong? What must I do to get it right, or what can I do to undo all this and start all over?

Thanks a million for helping me out   :P

I would try using a EvoX HD install disc. Works fine on all 4 systems I have modded. Never used Slayers myself.

You mean the boot CD that you compile yourself with the old backup directory included and the evox.ini file changed (like in the tutorial on this site)? Tried that one already....

Of course I have the "UseFDrive = Yes" line in my enox.ini file....

Is there any way that I can format the whole disk to just one clean partition? The drive isn't locked yet, so can I take it out the XBOX, put it in the PC and fdisk it? Or is there a more simple way to delete all the partitions?

what modchip and bios are you using, if you are using an old 29 wire modchip you may not be able to upgrade your hd.

I'm having a XBOX v1.0 with a homebrew modchip and the Xtender 1.1 bios.....  the harddiskswap worked good ('coz I could install Evox and got all other things working excellent....  only thing is that the whole F: disk won't do anything)...

Xtender is the problem, No drive F: support.

Aaaaargh! I thought that because everything seemed to work fine (besides F: showing only 0mb free space), the harddisk swap was succesfull...  so it's possible to swap harddisk (and even install EvolutionX and applications on E: partition), but only with the limitation that you can't use the F: partition?

If it's really because of the Xtender modchip, is it possible to "un-install"/remove it, and install a Matrix modchip instead? I haven't installed the Xtender myself (someone that I can contact anymore did it for me), so I'm a complete n00b....

Sure.
Just be carefull when removing the old wires on the chip.
Don't pull on any wire! Or you'll lift tracks and ruin the MB.
Just Cut all the wires near the point it's soldered on the MB.
