How To Enable Dolby Digital?
« on: October 17, 2005, 10:46:00 PM »

Sorry to bump an old thread, but when I load up MSdash and set everything to dolby surround and the rest enabled, will the settings stay set after I load Evox?

Also, I have the AV pack and an optical line connected to my Logitech z5500. That should be all I need for dolby digital right?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Oh yeah what happens when both Dobly Digital and DTS are enabled?

Mind you, this will mess up the sound of MP3s when using XBMP.

I would alter my reply to "could" mess up, but in my opinion stereo sound files sound better under xbmp ver 2.3 is this is not enabled in the ms dash.

also discussed on the xbmp board.

I only have an option that says "Nextgen Dashboard". Under that I can't do mutch. There is an option (MS Dashboard), but when I start that I get back to Evox.

I think he means load the original MS dashboard, no need to go flashing the original bios..... cos then your modchip becomes pointless.

Correct me if im wrong?

Load orig dash, goto settings| Audio

And change from mono or stereo to Dolby Digital  cool.gif

Max, you need to change your ini. to go to msdash under the msdash option.
ps; your msdash may have a different name, check your c drive for the name that looks like msdash or xbox dash and direct your ini to go there.

or just copy the xboxdash.xbe to your PC rename it to msxboxdash.xbe and upload to C:

The reason I say this is b/c w/ some mods you can turn off your chip.  When you do this it will search for "xboxdash.xbe" in C:

In the end, you should have the following 2 files in your c: partition:

evoxdash.xbe
xboxdash.xbe

Most BIOS' will look for evoxdash.xbe first, so they will load the EvoX dashboard when you turn on your XBox.  Then when you click the option to load the MS Dashboard it will load xboxdash.xbe.

The great thing about this is that when MS releases an update for XBox Live it will write to xboxdash.xbe, thus not messing anything up.

You may run into the problem where it STILL won't let you go to the original MS XBox Dash.  This could be that you installed a new Hard drive but didn't lock it.  If that is the case you'll need ConfigMagic to lock your hard drive.  This program can be found at the usual places.

After making these changes you should be able to change the audio settings!!!!!

I changed the evox.ini file so it reads: MSDashBoard= "c:msxboxdash.xbe". Now when I load MS Dash it starts loading, then it goes back to Evox. As "deckmoney" sad I have to lock my HD. What does it do? Why do I have to lock it?

You don't have to lock theharddrive unless you plan to disable the mod chip.

Make sure you have a file called msxboxdash.xbe on C before you tell evox to load it.

Also; Check in Boxplorer that this file actually is the MS dash (just launch it)

I get the same options as in Evox. Is there a way to download the original dashboard from somewhere?

If you have the same options as in Evox, and it looks like evox, then it is evox.

The options you have in the MS dash are different. Not to mention that it looks very different. Are you sure you actually have the ms dashboard?

If you don't have it, it's available in the usual places.
