I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions with DVD-Rs, but I have found that the slower the speed I burn my CD-RWs at, the more reliable they are in the Xbox.

-blue X on boot
-MS logo under X (not chip name)
-xbox cannot read DVD

The Blue Logo Means you Chip is Flashed Properly.

1.  Extract your current iso.
2.  Download Craxtion (Http://www.bestweb.net/~jltech/craxtion)
3.  Rename evox.xbe to default.xbe
4.  Create Iso of Evox folder (entire thing) with craxtion
5.  Burn with Record Now Max


Let me know how these steps go for you.
