Use that BIOS; I highly recommend it.  EvoX will not remedy any issues you're having with media checks.

It must be something wrong with that bios you have
I have flashed mine with all the colour bios's I have and it worked fine with all of them

Try downloading it from somewhere else

sounds like a problem with the name of your evo xbe file.  Take a look at the order the bios uses when searching for files to run after the boot sequence is complete.  It goes something like:

nexgen.xbe then evo.xbe then msdashboard.xbe....

I have no idea what it really is but this boot order might be your problem.
