Thanks for the info. I do have a copy of gfdimage so maybe I shall try that method first. And I also have Recordnow Max (which as well as you, is my favourite).

I have 2 questions now. I've seen mention that you should burn it to CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD-RW and I am curious can you use just a normal CD-R and if not, why is that?

Second, if I installed one of the linux distros are you able to play computer games on the xbox?? Obviously they must run in linux and the xbox requirements must meet the games requirements..but is that possible?

Thanks for the program and thanks for the support!

Only the Samsung DVD drive for the Xbox supports CDR and they make up about 5% of the DVD drives in all xboxes.  In a word, it's rare.
ALL xboxes can read CD-RW, even if a little slow, but OK nonetheless.

As for your comp game question, anything you can run in linux, including window emulators works.  Just keep in mind the biggest bottleneck is the limited 64MB of RAM in the xbox.

Yes, and consider yourself lucky.  People have paid as much as $160 for the Samsung Xbox DVD on eBay!

Looks like just the tool I'm after. It's a long thread and sorry if the question has been asked before but I have just chipped my box and downloaded the installer. I have also put in a Samsumsung 160Gb 5400rpm HDD. I turned the box on and put the CDRW in with the chip enabled, unprotect, bank2. It then comes up with error message 7. What does this mean and where am I going wrong. Cheers again beerchug.gif

Service Error 07
Info: Harddisk timeout.
Solution: Check the IDE Connection/Cable and check the Power Supply.

There you have it... you possibly didn't connect the HDD good enough.
Things like that can happen when the XBox was disassembled.
Just make sure everything is connected the right way...

...if you want to make sure it is not the modchip: disable it, turn on XBox, and see if the code returns or not.

I was thinking I would like to add Debian linux into my auto-installer disc. Is this possible to do and if so, could someone explain or point me in the proper direction of how to do it? I've been looking over the Xbox-Linux page and have not really been able to figure out how one could incorporate it into this CD. Thanks

I chose to use the GentooX Linux because it is pre-compiled for the xbox and pre-configured.  It is just a matter of copying a few files and it's fully installed and configured.

The other flavors of Linux require a lot more effort.

Basically, install whatever flavour of Linux you want as per the xbox-linux docs.  Once it's working and it's fully configured, reboot with the installer or evoX, FTP in and download ALL the files that make up the linux install.

Then take those files and place them in the root of a folder called "/linux/" now burn the installer with that additional folder in the root, after you've edited the evox.ini file to reflect the name of your linux instalation.

Lastly, you'll need a DVD-R/DVD-RW to burn the installer as a CD-RW will not have enough space.

Good luck!

soon, very soon...

I'm working hard and SS113 is testing like mad to make sure no one finds any bugs and the release is solid.

I will delay the release as long as it takes to ensure it's stable and fully tested.

Slayer, just a tip. If I were you... lol well seriously i'd do this. Make/Include a program in the slayer cd which is burning software. That means if someone puts in a PC dvd-r drive then they're able to make copies of games straight off the xbox rather than transfering to pc. I think this would be a pretty handy program to have...

your thoughts?

LOL, ok, firstly, that would NOT be XBOX software, but PC/MAC software and thus totally unrelated to the installer.

Second, such software almost already exists.  Look at xISOManager and the new Qwix coming out.  They both will allow you to place a title in the dvd of the xbox and make an ISO of it on your PC that you can then burn.  Burning directly is not really possible without some very creative caching as the ISO needs to be made before it is burned.  Best bet for you is to contact the authors of those tools and ask them, no need to re-invent the wheel.
