NEW! Slayer's EvoX Auto-Installer V2.1 !

QUOTE (Catfishjohn @ May 7 2003, 05:58 PM)
1wolf1 & SS113,

Thanks for this tool, it certainly made my initial experiences with modding an xbox a lot easier than what I expected.

I do have a question though.  As I've read through tutorials on installing EvolutionX and compare them to what I observe as the final outcome of the Auto-Installer, I'm wondering why all the files in  C: of the XBox are no longer there ?  The only files in C: are xboxdash.xbe, evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini

None of the tutorials I've seen (In regards to installing Evox) have a process to delete or move those files, and they all show them in the C: directory after transfering over the EvolutionX files.   But in the case of the Auto-Installer, all these files been moved to  C://xboxdashdata.10027100

I've also looked through the evox.ini file to see if there's some sort of "pointer" to that directory, so that when I turn of my chip (X-ecuter 2 PRO) those files are referenced or are copied back in some way.  But I don't see anything.

It seems to me that when I boot the XBox without the chip enabled, that xboxdash.xbe expects to see those files in the root directory.  But because I am able to boot to the m$dashboard, that assumption doesn't seem hold water.

So if you could help me understand this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again for the Tool !

BTW... I need to add that my setup is with an X-ecuter Pro chip, Bios X2 4976.02, and that I used the Installer with:

(D) Setting-Up a V1.0 or V1.1 XBOX with a Retail HD and a MOD chip that can be turned OFF!

The reason the C: files look differant then what you have seen printed in the past is because the Slayers Installer uses the Xbox Live Dashboard. all non live dashborad use to have the xtra files and are removed buy rhe live dash when installed so we just used one dash that works with all xboxs and will keep the xbox from getting messed up when or if live is installed by a user or a game.
The files structure is correct and will work as a retail boot and from in EvoX use the system managment then MS Dash for setting time this is the retail dash and is a Live dash as you will see the Xbox Live Icon. if the MS dash dose not work then the install was

Hope this clears it up for you.

Hi again:

OK, so I installed my X2Pro w/PogoPins a lil over a month ago. Recently added LEDs under the jewel and a set of 3 fans on the right side of tha case. After I added the LEDs, everything great, then X2Pro just stopped working, redid pogo pins, got it to work once, then only boots to MS Dash w/X2Pro off, and Boots 2x(FRAGs) then solid green, no video or audio. Cant get the XECUTER logo to pop up instead of MS logo. Ive redone the PogoPins over n over, opened that box at least 10+ times. Only FRAG 2x and no video or audio w/X2Pro on. I know the BIOS is good, just updated it to the latest XECUTER and the Evox is also up to date. What could it be? Damn pogo pins? Ive been soldering alot more lately, just not yet ready to try d0. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks.

ohmy.gif The Xbox doesn't start up w/ the evox dashboard. What now, did I totally miss something?

I put the auto-installer cd back in so that I could ftp into the box to make sure the files had copied over, sure enough, all the new files are there. Is this something as simple as editing the .xbe files? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
P

Your on the right track and that is to unload those damn pogo pins. what you may try till you get the nerve to tackle the D0 is remove the chip and pogo adapter and make sure the pins move in and out freely. i did a repair on a Matrix once that would work if you put slight pressure on one side of the chip, this was because one of the pins would not make contact as it did not stick out as far as the others once pressed in and released so it made no contact or poor contact.
This will give you something to look for and also check and be sure the LPC and the D0 point are clean and not damaged.

Hope this helps but the end of your problem will begin with soldering in the header or wires for a good connection .

Many Thanks For The Info

Some People Just Have No Idea Where To Look

Thanks For The New Version Info wink.gif)

Best Regards

Adam

Vast Gsm Team

I am glad you found the tool and are up and running, now would be a good time to start looking for where these apps and programs can be gotten from. so when the time comes to update or change what you now have your not looking in a panic and cant find what it is you looking for.

Learn how to update your Xbox so you dont have to rely on someone else or a new verson of the installer if there is even another.

Dig in and have fun thats what it is all about

Umm..will that all be on the main menu? Because that would take forever to look through and would be really annoying.

No, you don't see that all on the screen at the same time.  Example:  You won't see 7-1, 7-2, 7-3 on the screen until after you've selected option #7.

now mine will boot right up, but his hang's on the loading screen!?!

why would this happen??

thanks-

Any and all info is great-

Do you both have the same bios or is it possible that he has Evox while you have Xecuter 4976?

1wolf1...I'm not sure if I had ever posted it but THANK YOU for all of the work you've put into this.  If I ever run into you in a bar (not likely, huh?) then the beer'll be on me.  beerchug.gif

Once again another great auto-installer v2.1

I installed your v2.0 when it came out.
I had just got my xbox and did not know a thing about it.
Your installer was fantastic.

I have been having a few problems with saving my originals on to the hard drive. Only the latest games and i had never flashed the bios.
Read the posts for hours, was going to try myself but i'm a wimp.
Anyway i used your auto-installer to upgrade evox, bmp and the other apps.
Then i flashed my xbox to the x-cuter 2 bios.
The 2 games i had put on my hard drive work find now.
Which is a god send, my nephew keeps scratching the disks.
Anyway, your v2.1 sorted all my problems out.

Once again thanks to you and everyone who helped put this brilliant piece of software together

You are most welcome and I am glad to see that you are an old "customer" and have been using my installer for several versions now.

Now you should take the next step, analyze how it works and improve on it.  Hey, maybe you'll release the next must-have tool, you never know untill you try.

Best of luck and enjoy the xbox, it truly has a world of possibilities...

QUOTE (zackfu @ Jun 15 2003, 11:20 AM)
Hello All,
First off, thanks to everyone for the open dialogue throughout these boards. They've helped me get this far. smile.gif
But for now I'm hung up using Slayer's 2.1.  I've made it as far as rebuilding a new hard drive. The rebuild completes, I remove the installer, turn off the box and reboot. At this point, I should be seeing an evox dash (as I understand it), but instead I get hung up on the XBOX screen (the bottom reads xecutor2 so I know that the bios is loading). The system just hangs on the xbox screen, and I can hear my hard drive slowly, rythmically clicking.
If I try to boot with a disabled chip, I get an "error 13."
I've tried this operation with an evox D.6 bios, and the xecutor 4976.02...and i'm using a matrix chip.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, or have a suggestion?
Any help is incredibly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes this is common with users who used a USED CD-RW disk for the installer. what happens is the laser is not strong enough to read the disk properly so it gets corrupt or no data tranfers for some or many files.
If you burned the installer to a NEW CD-RW or DVD-R and are having this problem then I would suggest zeroing the HDD with a PC program used to preform that task and try the install again. this should not be required as i have used working PC drives with a working XP install on the drive stuck it in the xbox booted the installer and rebuilt the drive and the xbox works just fine so there is some sort of data transfer problem here and with little info about your xbox this is all i have to offer at this time.

****NOTE**** NEW CD-RW is a Unformatted and not ereased CD_RW freash from the wraper.

Thanks for the suggestions.
As I was using clean media, I tried zeroing the drive. Same effect. I ftp'ed to the xbox and compared the contents of the drive to the contents of the slayer .iso and they seemed to match up okay. (This was a 120 gig maxtor drive by the way, brand spankin new,  on a v 1.1 xbox.)
Popped a different drive in there (a 30 gig, year or two old and quite abused) and it seems to be working.
Must have been a drive defect?

Thanks for the help. smile.gif

And thank you, Ory, for the link!

I have heard of simmilar behaviour with some Samsung HD's and it was due to jumper settings.  I have heard of it happening on a Maxtor HD, one of those Dell "deals".

If I were you, and this was a retail unit, I would return the Maxtor and get another one, same or different model.  I run 2 of these with 8MB cache and locked and they work great.

There is no substitute for a nice 120GB drive in the xbox especially now that you can record mp3's from the live SHOUTcast stations.
