Need Help Booting Evox - Tried Everything
« on: February 19, 2003, 05:00:00 PM »

Ignore all the below shit, got everything working now.

Ok, I have a Creative Labs 6X DVD Rom Drive.
I tried hooking it up as a Slave to my HD IDE cable, with the xbox DVD drive plugged into it's original power source.

I have tried booting up a EvoX disc on Mexell and Hi-Val CD-R media, and now on a Verbatim CD-RW with a original Xbox game disc in the Xbox dvd drive.

No matter what I get red/green flashing and the Service your xbox screen. If I try and boot any of these disc's from the Xbox DVD drive (Without PCDVD drive) it boots up like normal then says it does not recognize the disc.

X2Lite
Thomson
8Gig WD
Kernal 4034

Oh, and the CD-R media I used could be read by my PC, but the CD-RW cannot. I think that meens the CD-R's where not burned right, for whatever reason, but the CD-RW seems to have been burned correctly as my PC cannot read it, but I can see there is data on the disc.

Iam guessing you do have the PC DVD drive set to slave correct. also the error code that will appear in the upper left corner of the service screen will help alot to pin down your problems. check to be sure cable is in correctly and the jumpers are correct, the CD-RW that wont read in the PC may be ok the other is not if a PC can read it

Error code is 12

12 - kernel - DVD parameters (PIO/DMA)

It dont like your DVD drive try a differant drive.
That is the same error you will get if you try to use a CDRW drive or CD drive instead of a DVD drive.

Is there anyway to get EvoX on the HD without using a boot disc?

You could put the files in a folder on a CDRW that has boXplorer loaded on the root.  When you put the CD in, boXplorer should auto-launch and then you can copy EvoX.  Only problem is this won't give you a clean backup of your original HD before you begin...

But the problem is is that it wont read the Media I throw at it.

It could be the burning process.
I'm about to try with a newer version of Nero in a minute.
We'll see.

No! I take it you are using the PC DVD because your thomson wont read the CD-RW you have written. if this is the case try to make an audio cd (not MP3s) to a CD-RW and see if it will play in the xbox with retail DVD drive and HDD chip off if it will play the media is compatable with the DVD drive and you can use this brand disk to boot the programs you need to install evox. now there is a couple of things others have done to help the drive read a know good disk but wont boot and that is to add a 400 meg dummy file to take up space on the disk so the drive has to search better to find the boot data. there is also Slayers Evox Installer V.2.0 which is in ISO file and you just burn the image with nero. this doses not seam to have the booting problems in 1.0 as you are haveing. it is 171 meg on the CD-RW and that may be why. you can find it on the first page of the thread full directions on how to find it. so there is a couple things to try to get your xbox going.

Ok, I finally got EvoX up and running using a CD-RW.
But now I want to FTP to the system. How? Do I need to edit the EvoX ini file before burning or what?

I read tuts and shit, so dont tell me to do that.
