if you're running xp...

1.Open Network connections.
2.Right clcik>properties
3.You'll then see.. Connect Using "Name of your ethernet card".. right next to it it says configure...click configure.
4.Another box will come up.. Click the "advanced" tab
5.Click on "Media Type", under "value" just switch it to what you want by hitting the arrow.
6.Click Ok and you're done

your xbox nic does a pretty good job of sensing line speed, perhaps you've got it connected to a 10bt device rather than one that is 100bt?

We didnt get far enough last night to worry about it... You need to change the configuration of your nic in the PC... follow what SScorpio said... that should do it... there arent many 10Mb nics out there so hopefully the nic does support 100... I know its a realtek but I dont remember what model... if you post it I will look it up and see...

oswald,

You are correct but that other device is his nic. His hub is also 10 but he is currently using a crossover... The onboard nic was set to 100 but was acting up... this nic is working but its set to 10... just need to change it to 100...

tried but no advanced tab in properties, just general, driver, resources.

wait I think I found it. In network instead of system.
Advance tab gives me this,
property: Duplex Mode  <-----can not change
Value: can change to, half duplex (default), or Full Duplex.

I tried Full, but no luck. Still 10 with crossover.

Duplex refers to direction of communication... its kinda like real real old phones or better.. walkie talkies.. they are half duplex, only one person can talk at a time... full duplex is more like current phones, you can bot talk at the same time...

Half Duplex:
|----------- time spent-------------|
|<-----------------
.........................----------------->|

Full Duplex:
|-- time spent---|
|<-----------------|
|----------------->|

As you can see it can greatly reduce the time needed but that assumes there is a lot of bidirectional communication and doesnt take into account collisions and things... if you are doing very large file transfers all in one direction then it doesnt have as much value...

If your care does not have an option to switch from 10Mb to 100Mb then it may be a 10Mb only nic... send me the model number of the nic and I will look it up... You should prob go buy a new nic if this one really is a 10Mb only. you can prob get one for $10 or $15

I looked up the card from the other post the card is a 10/100 based card.  With win98 and certain cards you may have to shut down the XBOX and the PC and then reboot the PC then turn the XBOX on.  The other possiblity there is a special cable pinning for a 10Mbp crossover cable.  I hope the cable is not that.

It does appear you are running a cable modem.  Does the modem plug in to your ethernet port or does it use USB?

not sure which one he mentioned before... the one he currently has in there is a Realtek nic... he changed it out last night... had a genelink on board but it was bad... I think he may have another card? but anyway the one that is in there is a realtek...

He has used the same cable on the old nic which did establish a connection at 100Mb but had other issues...

and his cable modem has usb and ethernet but he is not connected to the cable modem with the pc that is connecting to the xbox... it is just the xbox and the nic... nothing else...

You wouldn't happen to have that realtek chipset number handy, would you?  I can look it up very quickly if you do.  The card is probably only 10mbs.  He may be better off getting a new NIC.
