try a new x-over maybe yours isn't a real one

What?
Explain.

As far as the crossover cable goes does the XBOX and the PC both have link detect?

If you have a uplink you have a crossover.  You can also tell by looking at the cable ends.  Look at the wire color patterns if they are indentical on both ends it is a straight through.  If certain pairs are flipped you have a crossover.

Zone Alarm is bad about blocking internal IP address.  Check your zone alarm log and see if it is stopping the communication.  I have seen cases even with zone alarm dissabled it conflicts with communications.

I also noticed you have the default gateway on your PC pointing to itself.  This should not be configured in this manner.  The default gateway should point to a device that is acting as a router.
If there is none it should be blank.

The same is true for your XBOX is your PC acting as a router?  If it is not the default gateway pointing to the PC is not needed.

It's a crossover cable. It says it on the wire, and I use it for my system link games, so I know the cable works.
It isn't suppose to be this hard. Its got to be something simple.

okayama,

I feel bad for you... I hate that you are having so many problems... If you were in my state I would prolly drive over there and fix it personally, just cuz I hate that you are having so many problems and have been fighting it so long... I really don't know anything to tell you off hand. let me think about it a bit... I am wondering if your zone alarm has anything to do with it. do you have any other pc's? do you use this pc on the internet or anything?

Would this play a factor in this.
I think I have a DHCP server in my PC.
Because when I would try using evolutionx 1.8.4xx, my pc would give the xbox a IP automaticly.
If this is the case, would I need to change some things in the evox.ini and would I need to leave the PC's IP and Subnet alone?
Please let this be the problem, and let it be easly fixable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It should work as Static or DHCP.  All you are doing is setting IP's.

as far as the 1.8.4xx version.  It sets its self with a IP it will be in the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx range.  Its sort of a default IP.

Did you read through the rest of my post?

There was a couple things that you should change.  I still suspect zone alarm as the part of the issue.

ok lets say it is zone alarm.
Do I just need  to reboot the pc, wait till the desktop loads, then turn off zone alarm?
Or do I need to keep zone alarm from coming on altogether?

I checked zone alarm's log, but found nothing with ip 192.168.0.3

I say:
I removed default gateway from the pc like it should be. ( I have no router).

I don't know, Is it?
I'm just guessing here, but since I don't have a external router, the answer is no.
You tell me.
So if I don't need it, I remove that off the evox.ini right?

My guess would have to be probably not.  Its difficult for me to tell as the information I have to go by is what I am told.

Thats correct.

The easiest way to disable zone alarm is remove it from startup.  Click on start --> run and type MSCONFIG.  After the window loads click on the startup tab.  On the startup tab you should see all the apps that start when windows loads.  The main engine for Zone Alarm is called true vector.  Look for any thing that looks related to Zone Labs - Zone Alarm and uncheck it and reset the PC.

The nice thing about doing it this way is it is easy to return to the original state.

Give it a shot and hopefully this will work.  If not we can try somthing else.  But don't give up.

do you use this pc on the internet (via cable or dsl) or anything?

Reason I ask is we need to see if your computers networking is working...

Zone Alarm can be brutal, even turning it off does not stop parts of it from running and blocking... I would not expect it to cause this but if you can ping something else it will help isolate...

Yes I use cable for the internet.
But when I try to connect to xbox I disconnect cable modem and just put crossover cable to xbox.
If you have any suggestions, just shoot.

Another thing I found out. Not sure if it matters but this is what I found.
I clicked start and run, enter Command and click OK. in the window that opens I typed ipconfig.
This is what it says.

Windows 98 IP Configuration

0 Ethernet adapter :
IP Address.................:169.254.xxx.xxx
Subnet Mask..............:255.255.0.0
Default Gateway........: ((Blank))

1 Ethernet adapter :
IP address.................:24.196.123.456
Subnet Mask..............:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway........:24.196.123.006

Should I have two here.
I know the IP should be 192.168.0.1
After not being able to ping xbox, I just turned auto sign back on for PC IP.

Im assuming that you only have one NIC in your PC? it may show two because one may be some funky thing to do with your cable modem service... I hate it when they have some special software they want you to install... tell me again what the two options are in the drop down box in Winipcfg on your system...

Genesys Logic
DAVICOM DM9102/A PCI Fast Ethernet? <---- not sure what the rest says.

Not sure if this is the reason for it, but my old motherboard died. I went out and bought another one all most exactly the same. It was a little different but they both used the same processors, so I bought it. Well the new motherboard came with a NIC also. I didn't like how it connects to the board, so I never used it. I just put in the NIC from my other board.

Would that be why I have two there.
