Quick And Easy Evo Question
« on: February 11, 2003, 05:41:00 PM »

I'm trying to ftp my xbox and pc.
I have an openbox mod, and excu bios.
I have Evo v1.8458 burnd on a cdrw- works fine.
I know, your going to tell me to update my Evo.
The reason I haven't is because I didn't want to mess with changing stuff on my HD.
My question is, inorder to do the ftp do I have to have Evo on my hard drive or can I do it off my dvd drive?
I'm having no such luck at all doing it off my dvd drive.

You can do it off of either one. CDRW/DVD works find and Harddrive works fine... what are the specific problems you are having? you using static ip or dhcp?

Not sure which one or how to tell. But this is what I can tell you.
I'm using a hub, no crossover cables.
xbox:
Static IP        192.168.000.003
Default GAte 192.168.000.001

Also I just now turned off passive in smart ftp. On my xbox Evo network settings screen, I noticed this now: IP: 0.0.0.0-

My ip settings on my pc have not been messed with at this time.
(hope this makes sense: before I turned off passive, I did change my ip settings. It didn't help any. The ip settings are set back to normal now.)

Still timing out in smart ftp

yup, if you xbox is saying 0.0.0.0 then it is trying to obtain an ip address from a dhcp server. you need to edit he evox.ini file and turn

staticip = yes

Well you see thats the problem. I thought the same thing but this is what the ini file looks like.

#tDoBIOS=1,
#tDoFlashBIOS=2,
#tDoDash=3,
#tDoLaunchMenu=4,
#tDoReboot=5,
#tDoNetwork=6,
#tDoHarddisk=7,
#tDoLaunch=8,

Section "Root"
{

   Item "MS Dashboard",@3
   Item "Reboot",@5

   Section "System Utils"
   {
      Item "Network",@6
      Item "Harddisk",@7
      Item "Flash BIOS",@1

   }

   Section "Launch Menu"
   {
      Section "Games"
      {
         Item "Halo","f:gameshalodefault.xbe"
         Item "Halo 2","f:gamesburnoutdefault.xbe"
         AutoAddItem "e:games"
         AutoAddItem "f:games"

      }

      Section "Apps"
      {

         AutoAddItem "e:apps"
         AutoAddItem "f:apps"
      }
   }
}

How do I turn on staticip in that?

menu.ini
default.xbe
bio's (folder)

That's all it has. The cdrw works with these files.
I hope you can help me get this going. I've been wanting to do this for a long time now.

OK good news, I think.
I disconnected my hub and replaced it with a crossover cable.
This is what my xbox screen says now,

IP : 192.168.0.3 - Static
Static IP      :192.168.0.3
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

I'm using smart ftp in active mode, still get time out or something along the lines of that.
My Evo cdrw only has a menu.ini, which has nothing that I know of to change.
I haven't changed any ip settings on my pc.

Do I still have hope?

not stupid... I haven't met a person yet that new (Edit uhhhh or knew) how to check an ip address without first reading, being told or being shown how to do it... its not hard, its just one of those things that most people dont need to know how to do, so they dont...

ok, so now, it kinda depends on what version of Windows you are using...

Windows 9x,ME

Start,
Run,
Winipcfg
Ok

Windows NT,2K,XP

Start,
Run,
Cmd
Ok,
ipconfig
<enter>

if your using winipcfg then I believe you have to change the protocol to tcpip? I cant remember for sure... and if you have multiple nics or anything like that then you have to select the one that corrosponds to the nic you want...once you get that far, if it is not intuitive just post what options you have and I will tell you what to pick...

I have these buttons to use.

ok
release
renew
release all
renew all

I can also change from Genesys logic and Davicom dm9102/A PCI Fast Ether?

I can also change DNS servers vaules.

I hope this all makes sense to you.
Oh and I only have one NIC on my computer.

Not sure what you mean about protocol to tcpip.

Now that I know my IP address, how do I ping my xbox.

k, you saw your ip address right? That is all that matters. I am assuming it was when you change to Davicom dm9102/A PCI Fast Ether? Anyway, first thing is to verify that this is a correct ip address. It should be the same as your xbox ip address except with a different number at the end... for example

xbox = 192.168.0.3
pc = 192.168.0.2

Assuming that this is true then everything looks fine. Next thing to do is try pinging. It sounds like you have a 9x or ME pc so if that is the case do this...

Start,
Run,
Command
Ok,
Ping 192.168.0.3
<enter>

make sure that where I put 192.168.0.3 is the ip address of your xbox. Post what it says after you do that...

pinging 192.168.0.3 with 32 bytes of date:

request timed out.
request timed out.
request timed out.

Pinging statistics for 192.168.0.3:
Packets: sent = 4, received = 0, lost = 4 ( 100%loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
minimum = 0ms, maximum = 0 ms, average = 0ms

note: my pc ip was no where close to my xbox ip in either,(Genesys logic or Davicom dm9102/A PCI Fast Ether?)
