Sorry for not making myself clear.

I have only a short crossover, so I have to bring my xbox to the PC. But then I have no way of verifying that the xbox really gets the IP it should (the one in evox.ini since the StaticIP=Yes).

I have never tried to do it blind , I do have to ask you this, Do you have all the cables pluged in and the the light on the xbox is green when doing this?
And yes because it is set to static it should be the address in the evox.ini.
QUOTE
Since I can't even ping it; I guess it doesn't. But why?
Were trying to figure that out, it is either the cable, a setting, or the method of hooking it up.

QUOTE
Another strange thing I forgot to mention in that the light on the PC nic is yellow when connected to the xbox with the crossover (the xbox light is green). When I connect the PC to my cable modem the light is green. I'm not sure what this means ?
As for the light being yellow (amber) this could be the speed indicater 10/100 or dulex indicater. is there only 1 light or 2 most nic cards have 2 but i have by no means seen them all so you may only have 1 the xbox has 2: 1 green meaning it is connected to a LAN 1 amber flashing during data transmission. to find out what the color change means in your nic card you will need to know what brand and model it is and look at the web site in support for the brand and look up the spec sheet to it. this should give the color meanings.

because you cant confirm your settings in evox because it is not conected to a network when you check your setting and can only assume they are correct there is not a lot of hope in getting to the bottom of this but shear luck. Too many things can't be answered so it is nothing more then shots in the dark. you need to find a way to view the dash when conected to the LAN and verifiy the IP address before we continue. OK

Well, I did go and buy myself a long crossover, and guess what:
It f***ing worked!!
At first xbox startup the IP field on the dash showed the expected IP, and FlashFXP logged on without any problems, beautiful...

I guess the other cable was bad anyway.

Now, I'll prepare a new 120 Gb to install my 80 Gb of games, and hopefully I won't need to ask more questions...

I am glad everything is working now. have fun with your drive, no more changing disks.LOL
