No Luck Networking After Hours And Tutorials..

Have you pinged your xbox?
If you do not know how here is a little help.....
Open command prompt window (start>run>type "cmd" or "command" without quotes) hit enter.
At C: type "Ping 192.168.?.???" without quotes and use what you think your xbox's IP is.
If it times out yor xbox does not own the IP address you think it does. Without going into how to ping a series of IP addresses why dont you just set staticIP=no and let the DHCP do it automatically. Your router should be set up for DHCP out of the box.
Set staticIP=no, reset xbox and see if you have an IP.
I'll check with you later......

If you do have a real Gateway/Router providing a DHCP service on your home network
let is assign ip address's to the rest of the network.

Setup network = Yes
Static IP = No

Restart your PC and Xbox just for good measure.
Then check ipconfig to see if the router is assigning an IP address to your PC.
Then check the Xbox to see if it got one as well.

If it did not then it could be a cable or connection problem or you could have a cheap piece of
Internet premis equipment from your ISP and will have to buy a real Gateway/Router
to properly subnet your home network.
To find out if your cable/dsl router is doing its job like its supposed to
or if its a Piece of Shit cable or telephone company bastardized "bridge" answer this:
Can you browse the internet from 2 or more PC's using the same internet connection
without having to set a static IP or enable internet connection sharing?

Oh, yea this comes up from time to time with personal firewalls.
Turn them off if you are running them and see if that fix's the problem

OK, I will try both of those.

If I set the static IP to NO then do I also get rid of the IP address in the .ini? Seems like I should but just checking.

Also what about the gateway? Im pretty sure I need to leave that in the .ini, correct?

Thanks for the help.

XMack

Update - Ping and Tracert both timeout. Obviously no connection there.

I will edit the .ini and re-make the boot disk changing static to "no" and deleting the IP address.

Ethernet MAC Address 00:50(etc...)
Setup Network YES
Use Static IP YES
IP 192.168... (etc)
Subnetmask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.... (etc)
DNS 0.0.0.0
DNS 0.0.0.0

Click start and click run enter CMD and click OK. in the window that opens type on the current line ipconfig this is the info of the computer you run this on.
Note the IP Adress and the Default Gateway and the Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

OK now armed with this info go into your evox ini and edit like this

[Network]

SetupNetwork   = Yes
StaticIP   = NO
Ip      = 192.168.X .X  "the first X" should match your computer  the second .X should be differant then any on the network ie:200
Subnetmask   = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway   = 192.168.X .X  This should match your computer exactly which is actually the router address.
DNS1      = 0.0.0.0
DNS2      = 0.0.0.0

if you are using a linksys router and have not made changes to the internal settings then the default settings should have worked, if you are using another brand router or disabled DCHP then you will have to set the IP your self. if you changed the default gateway of the router then this you know from the IPCONFIG you ran earlier. the reason for NO in the static IP setting is that if 200 in not available then the DCHP will assign it a new address if it is available then it will use the 200 as set in IP address in the INI file.

Ok I just looked it up.
It is a fully "hung" router:

So EvoX should be setup like this:
Setup network = Yes
Static IP = No

Check your cable for link lights.
Your PC and Xbox should have no need for static IP's or DNS enteries.
It should get it all from the router.
Dont forget to check the firewalls they seem to cause problems as well.

Damn, does your xbox ever get an IP assigned to it?
or is it always 0.0.0.0

Problem solved, guess my Cat-5 cable from Fry's isn't cutting it.

System on the network now. What a pain in the arse, 5 hours down the tubes.

Thanks all for the ideas.
