it isn't a crossover cable so i used the hub to connect. The problem was my cable modem. i was changing settings and fooling around and decided to turn off my cable connection but keep everything plugged in. From then on it's worked perfectly. I wasn't connected to the internet cause I changed my ip so i don't really understand why it was interfering with ftping. All that trouble and all i had to do was press a stupid button, oh well.....thanks for all ur help.
