Question About Matrix Limited 256k Bios
« on: November 27, 2002, 06:23:00 PM »

couldn't you just use XBOXBiosSlicer to convert a 1 mb bios into a 256k bios and use that on the Matrix?

Well, there you go. The solution was so simple! Take that nasty little 512k X2 BIOS and chop it up!!  :rotfl:

You can't just chop it up as the next version is gonna be a true 512k bios not a 256k replicated  x2 for 512k or x4 for 1Mb

Sorry to burst your bubble

Question About Matrix Limited 256k Bios
« Reply #5 on: November 27, 2002, 09:51:00 PM »

BenJeremy answer me this:

"I have a Matrix and have not flashed my TSOP so i still use 256 bios'. I had to make my own 256 versions using hondaXbox's tutorial. The converted X2_V1_F.bin bios works ok with XBCopy but the converted X2_v1_noani_blue_F.bin bios does not allow XBCopy to work correctly. The problem is that XBCopy gets to the save to folder section, but you cant select any other folder than E:\(XBOX-SAVES). Can someone check to see if they have the same problem with the X2_v1_256_noani_blue_F.bin either 1mb or their own 256 version or both. Thanks in advance...."

and I assume from your thread and I have done some digging resulting in enormous amounts of garbage info out there that the X-ecuter v2 1.0 bios is the last of the bios' that will be capable of being down converted?

Well, you'd have to ask the author of xbcopy why this is so.

Quite frankly what you describe is rather bizarre. Two different X2 BIOSes, with only a color logo and no-ani change difference causing xbcopy to at odd. If it were a non-X2 BIOS that Xbcopy was working in, I'd chalk it up to an IGR incompatibility.

The other possibility is that SuperFro's FanCBox was used to patch the X2 BIOS and it messed something up in the process.

Does Boxplorer or Evo-X report the F: partition exists at all?

ya F drive works and is visible..
I think I found out the problem and that is if you want to downsize a 1mb bios into a 256 then you have to use a root bios (un-modded) ie. x2_v1.0_4973_256.bin and not ie. X2_v1_noani_blue_F.bin to start with.  hondaXbox's tutorial only works on base bios' from what I read so I beleive the problem lies there.  I am now working on converting the x2_v1.0_4973_256.bin into x2_v1.0_4973_256_Fboot.bin.  Thanks for the help...
